It's a new year, a new month, a new day... and it is time to set up the Declutter Challenge! Wouldn't you love to be able to return home to a clutter-free, neat, peaceful house? Wouldn't it be brilliant to be working in a kitchen where all of your utensils are in their proper places, and where your countertops glisten and beg to be covered with fresh cookies rather than clutter? Take A Decluttering Challenge today! Never heard of a Declutter Challenge? It put it simply, it is a challenge you give yourself (and/or your family and friends) to get a large part of your home clutter-free in a specific time frame. And it WORKS!

The 30 Day Decluttering Challenge

One type of challenge is referred to as the 30 Day Declutter Challenge, and the idea is that on each one of the 30 days of the month you declutter one item or area of your house, big or little. The objects can range from the bottom drawer in your armoir to the media centre in your den, from your junk drawer to the kraft supply kit that gets stuffed in the spare room closet. The most important thing is to be realistic with your chore assignment. Assigning "put photos taken in the previous 3 years into albums" most likely isn't do-able in one afternoon, but perhaps "sort out the pictures into envelopes or piles by the event or person and dispose of photographs you won't wish to keep" CAN be finished!
Once your tasks have been assigned, consider giving yourself a reward to look forward to as soon as your 30 Day Challenge ends successfully! Yes, it will likely be rewarding enough to see your decluttered house, you can not deny that we work harder if we have something extra to gain from our efforts!

The One Week Decluttering Challenge

This particular type of challenge will have you to designate one entire week to your challenge. This will be a serious "no distractions allowed" week throughout which you free your schedule in order to getting back what was once your decluttered house. Every day, decide on one area, lock yourself within it so to speak, and get working! Garbage bins, boxes for donations, boxes for re-sell, and not surprisingly some good ole' cleaning supplies are your must-haves. Pull your spouse, your friends, or your children along for the ride! The more the merrier!
Perhaps you will need to cut back and go with a One Week Playroom Declutter Challenge, or a One Week Garage Decluttering Challenge. Don't let that worry you! Commit yourself to decluttering for 7 days (and seriously, what is seven days in the scheme of things), and you'll certainly bring order back to at least part of your cluttered home!

The 2010 in 2010 Decluttering Challenge

This category of Declutter Challenge is a very popular one this year. Commit yourself to decluttering (by donating, selling, or throwing out) 2010 things in the year 2010. Does that sound like a lot of stuff?? If you do the math though, it is really not too crazy at all. 2010 divided into 365 days is merely 5.5 items each day. Look around you... the junk drawer, the cupboard in the basement, your closet, the work shop... that doesn' t seem impossible, does it? Tick off your success on your calendar, and see the clutter melt away!
Yet another way you could do the 2010 DeClutter Challenge is to commit 2010 minutes specifically to decluttering! That is 33.5 hours.... A whole lot until you consider that there are actually 8,760 hours in one year! That's less than one 45 minute session per week! BUT, 2010 minutes is enough to get a LOT decluttered!

So, the "30 Day Decluttering Challenge", the "One Week Decluttering Challenge", and the "2010 in 2010 Declutter Challenge"... three amazing ways to begin decluttering your home! Which challenge are you going to do?
