The bedtime routine is so very important; remember the 4 B’s! Bath, Bottle, Book, Bed! It is really critical that when you start the bedtime routine, there will be no distractions, after the bathroom then go to the bedroom, dim the lights comfort your baby after the bath and then quietly and gently start the routine to go to bed with their bottle and a book.

Don’t be extra quiet during the day when he’s napping - When he sleeps during the day, and all babies do, leave the door to the bedroom open, and go continue your normal daily routine. Keep the television or music on. Two things will happen that will help your baby. First, he will learn to sleep through normal household noise, this is important since this child will be taking naps in your home for the next four or five years. Second, he will get use to the idea that the daytime is not the time for long periods of sleep and will probably learn that nighttime is the proper time.

You should feed your baby as much as they need during the day, with a final feeding just before bedtime. The theory is that the more they eat through the day the less they will want through the night. Should your baby wake up during the night, it is important that you keep the feeding time as low key and quite as you can make it. Feed your baby in a dark and quiet room with very few interactions on your part. Just simply feed your baby and put them back in their crib.

So where is the magic formula that can enable you to help your 5 month infant sleep through the night? I don’t think that there is any magic out there, but there certainly is lots of help for parents who have trouble helping their 5 month infant sleep.
