When you look at the Major League Baseball standings and get ready to make a wager at the sports book you will see some surprise teams.

Every year you will find shocks in baseball and some of these teams keep on their achievement versus the sports book online probabilities all year. Which teams are likely to keep on their early season achievement this year?

At least 1 team with a loser record from the previous season made the playoffs the next year in 14 of the last 15 years. You can find 5 teams that look like they may make the playoffs after losing a year ago and may remain in the hunt. The San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets and Oakland Athletics are all in the mix. What are the odds for each one of these teams?

Nearly anyone is hugely surprised by San Diego this season. This Padre team was meant to be horrible and in last place. They have been in first place instead close to all season. Can they remain there? The answer is almost certainly not. They've got the 5th-worst offense in the league and that just isn't going to cut it. San Diego has to improve their hitting if they're to remain in the hunt.

The Cincinnati Reds are also a serious surprise this season nevertheless they have the hitting to remain there. The Reds are topping the league in runs and home runs. They have hammered the poorer teams of their division, Chicago, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh and Houston. You have to wonder whether they can deal with St. Louis. The Reds have plenty of one-run wins and that luck might come to an end before the season is over.

The Oakland Athletics have been a serious surprise and they play in a weak division. They might hang around for that 1 reason. Nevertheless they just do not have a lot of a history of progressing quite far in the season. Many times they've gotten first place in the AL West division, simply to lose immediately in the AL Division Series. Since 1905, they've made 23 playoff appearances. It's not precisely an amazing record.

The Angels actually won a World Series in 2002 and have a relatively better record than the Oakland Athletics. Nevertheless, they're not as good as last season, when they advanced through the playoffs before giving up the AL Championship Series to the Yankees.

The Texas Rangers are 1 of just three existing MLB franchises who have never made an appearance in the World Series. And they just cannot pitch this season.

Toronto has good pitching and powerful hitting, but they compete in the American League East. You might like their odds if they weren't stuck in a division with New York and Tampa Bay. However they are likely to miss the playoffs again since they're in the AL East.

The New York Mets are merely in the discussion considering Philadelphia has had trouble. The New York Mets have Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey. The roster is sporadic and unless Carlos Beltran comes back and is superb, this club is going to fall.
