On Tuesday the Super Bowl XLVIII was awarded to New York/New Jersey, and sportsbook bettors took note.

New Meadowlands Stadium is the site of the February 2014 Super Bowl. The weather could be icy but the excitement level of the Super Bowl in the New York area sure won't hurt the offshore sportsbook probabilities.

The Super Bowl's site is typically decided on several years in advance. Despite the fact that the tournament is virtually always held in a city that has an NFL franchise, this doesn't mean the team has a chance to play on home turf. No team thus far has competed in their home stadium at the Super Bowl, in reality.

Sportsbook probabilities on Super Bowl games usually are popular. Having the game in New York will only help increase the interest. Tampa and South Florida also made bids for the 2014 game, but the New York/New Jersey area was chosen over them. NFL owners voted to award the 2014 game to New Jersey even though Florida has the better weather. The match at the Meadowlands Stadium will be the 1st Super Bowl ever presented at a cold-weather outdoor arena. A 1972 Super Bowl held at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans was where the lowest temperature ever recorded at kickoff of a Super Bowl game occurred. It almost guaranteed to be chillier than that in East Rutherford, New Jersey at 6:30 pm Eastern time in February.

The weather at the Super Bowl location was a concern but the draw of the New York/New Jersey area far outweighed any weather concerns. Only the people at the game would be affected by the cold weather, so the NFL is really not too concerned about it anyway. The bettors at the offshore sportsbook don't really care, and neither do the millions that watch the game on TV. And the weather really is not as bad as everyone thinks. The average temperature at the Meadowlands during February would be approximately 24 to 40 degrees, with rain possible.

The NFL in reality , has a rule that the Super Bowl needs to be held in a city that has average temperatures of 50-degrees or above in February. The league waived that rule in this case. The 2014 Super Bowl will be played for the first time in a northern city in a structure that doesn't have a fixed or retractable roof. It is all about the money. The local New York/New Jersey area is expected to bring in $550 million from the 2014 Super Bowl. It also helps that the Giants and the Jets are local teams and that increase the visibility for the game. The Giants and Jets will split just over six percent of the overall tickets for the game.

With 7 Super Bowls, the Louisiana Superdome has hosted the largest number of the game. Other common locations included the Miami Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California, as well as the Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The Super Bowl will be presented in Dallas in 2011, Indianapolis in 2012 and New Orleans in 2013.
