Summer is here. Temperatures have been soaring, the sun has been shining and correspondingly, hemlines have been rising. Summer fashion is embracing this heat and keeping cool in floaty fabrics and nude colours. So what''s hot to trot?

Ruffles, frills, layers and bows; anything that feels good, looks good too. This is a trend that will carry on into autumn and winter too, so an investment now can be worn for the rest of 2010.

Animal prints are still a top trend to adopt this year. However, for summer they have come over all cool, calm and collected. Muted hues of greys, steel blues and mauve are the winning combination.

Shape wise, tube, cocoon and even pencil skirts are the top picks. High waisted is also a must as is the look of the year, body con. Basically, every skirt this summer is made to highlight the natural curves of a woman''s figure.

Nautical is another big look that seems have been around for ages, but rightly so. It is chic and stylish, yet casual and comfortable.

Go dotty for polka dots this summer. Not only does these ooze 50''s cool, which is a key upcoming trend, it can look just as good with a rocker t-shirt as it does with a silk nightwear-as-outerwear styled top.

Belted and bowed is another way to add detail to an otherwise plain, dark tube or pencil skirt. Studs too can add a bit of edge that can change the look of the outfit entirely.

Ever since 2009, floaty florals have been flowing through the fashion world in a very big way. The fits hug a women''s figure but are girly and feminine without being too obvious.

This new-found femininity is why making summer fashion so appealing this year. Women can feel girly in florals, nudes and frills without having to put too much emphasis in. You don''t need to wear heels to feel sexy, and you don''t need to wear tonnes of make-up to grab attention, you can look understated and cool in the womanly fashion of this summer.

Luckily, this season''s skirts aren''t just for summer. They will look just as hot when the temperatures cool and the evenings shorten. Summer doesn''t have to end in August.
