For centuries, the Sufis, in their service to humanity, have also have helped with the healing the sick. The practice of holistic medicine (that encompassing the entire system) has often made high ranking spiritual masters the most revered amongst all the calling of the Sufis in some locations. The Sufis and other orders of spiritual healers use prayer and meditation as forms of medicine

The Sufi Spiritual Masters of Healing are dedicated to serving and living in harmony with the Creator. The primary purpose of life is to emulate the Creator by utilizing a holistic approach to helping others. A Sufi master who helps mankind by serving in this way is held in the highest regard in some circles. The Divine Spiritual Power practiced by the Sufi Masters for over 800 years is one of four types of healing methods in one of today’s popular models. The other methods are Modern or allopathic, Traditional - including naturopathy, Chinese, and herbology; and Spiritism, which includes hypnotism, magnetism and yoga.

The holistic principle in Sufi thinking is stated simply. God is at the root of all sources of healing. The Sufi Master acts as a temporary mediator between the person who is ill and the Creator. The practice of Sufi methods begins by studying the life principles drawn from any one of the many Holy books or traditions. There are many basic components used in the holistic methodology. Some use all or just one of these. The first is the act of prayer or meditation. This can be done individually or in conjunction with a group usually meeting under the leadership of a qualified Sufi teacher.

A second component of general treatment is the use of either natural or today, modern medicine. The centuries old study of the pathology of disease recognizes that much illness is due to undigested matter and impressions accumulating in the bloodstream and bowel, eventually affecting the entire body. Holistic methods aimed at treating the whole system have proved effective in many people.

General healing methods also make use of practicing something physical. This means that exercise intended to refresh the internal organs, smooth and regulate the movement of nutrients and food, improve digestion, and eliminate accumulations of undigested matter in the system is often the third component of this methodology.

Exercises dedicated to each part of the body help to improve the functioning of the entire body. Therefore, walking, swimming, hiking, archery and horseback riding among others are most helpful in increasing the circulatory function. Reading aloud helps to improve the lungs, especially if care is taken to increase the breath rhythm and volume in the exercise.

More specifically, self mastery, as in yoga, controlling movements of the limbs in a natural and methodical manner can help in many ways. It lightens the mood, improves the mind, refreshes the organs of the body, prevents joint stiffness and strengthens ligaments and tendons. Such exercises have been linked to cures of problems of every sort.

This treatment regimen is as varied as the patients and the practitioners. Each individual needs a different type of healing. It is in the finding of what is right for the individual that some of the secrets lie. Often it is the awakening of the patients own internal guidance system for the following of their heart’s desire that is the best cure and direction the healer takes.
