Concrete footings are very important to prevent foundation of structures from settling. Present are a lot of things that should be cautiously considered before building your building. The location of the building, the unique climatic environment of the place, the nature of the soil, the water drainage system etc play a major role in deciding the strength of foundation that is required. Most people today take them for granted along with the concrete foundation. But they fail to realize the crucial importance that they have. The strength of the footing required depends on the nature of soil at your place.
For places which have standard soil, engineers usually advise a platform which is 15 to 18 inch wide. This can provide necessary support for the basement. A main problem that can occur if this platform is not strong enough to support the foundation is the settling of the basement. This phenomenon might not be visible at first, but in the long run it will have pronounced adversities which might be not easy to correct at that time. So, it becomes very crucial to conduct a soil test and determine the strength of the soil before finalizing your Concrete Footings.

Every house and its basement are designed to withstand certain anomalous situation. This is reasonably understandable because it is not every time possible to predict the nature of our environment correctly. But, this withstanding competence depends on the degree of abnormality occurring. Even if a basement is provided with sufficient concrete footing, it has been observed that settling occurs due to certain environment. But, this will go unnoticed if the settling is even. This is not a serious scenario as the basement can adjust itself to compensate this change. But, cases where differential settling is observed have pronounced damages to the flooring, tiles and plastering.

It is not at all times possible for an inexperienced eye to judge the bearing competence of soil just by visual inspection. Even though it might seem satisfying on the surface, there might be some hidden soft zones which can cause problems later. Therefore, it is at all times recommended to hire the services of an expert engineer and conduct a bearing strength test. This will give a clear on the type of concrete footing that is required for your basement. A contractor might be an experienced person, but nothing can equal the technical knowledge and wisdom of a trained engineer.

As the owner of the place and the proposed house, you should be aware of the technical jargons associated with the basement development. This can be helpful if you are planning to do some modifications to your house in the future. Being aware of the uniqueness of your place allows you to plan your renovations accordingly. A strong and safe home is every man's dream and one shouldn't mind spending some time understanding the basics. Adequate Concrete Footings can ensure that your foundation is prevented from settling troubles and thereby concentrate your efforts on other important aspects of building construction.
