Suffering through intense episodes of extreme anxiety where you feel like you will die is no way to go through life. If you want to stop panic attacks, you need to get a handle on your symptoms.

Most sufferers of panic attacks are highly anxious people.
Worrying about everything every minute of the day will not change the future. It is important to realize that not everything that happens is totally within your control. Accepting daily life as it comes is something that takes practice.

If you want to stop panic attacks, you have to work on every aspect of your life to regain control. Here are some things you can do:

1.Panic attacks occur suddenly, and usually there is not much warning. Instead of “fighting” the attack, try to breathe slowly and focus your mind on something pleasant. It is much more difficult than it sounds, but when you practice breathing techniques, it is possible to slow your heart rate and relax yourself.

2.Take some “me” time each day. This means alone time, away from your family. Do something you enjoy doing, take yourself for an ice cream cone or go and sit in the park and read a book for an hour. Anything that will take your mind off of your daily grind for even a short while.

3.Join a self help group with other people who suffer the same symptoms as you. If you can discuss how you are feeling with people who understand what you are going through, you can gain insight to your symptoms and why you feel the way you do. Sometimes having an open dialogue with other people will help you to discover an underlying issue.

4.Write down a check list and keep it with you. In that list, you can right down things like “I will be fine”, “I am not going crazy”, “I am not going to embarrass myself in public”, etc. Whatever it is that goes through your head during your worst panic attack, summarize it and reassure yourself in simple statements that you can refer to when you need to the most.

5.Reduce unnecessary stress. Whether it is your job or your personal life, if there are areas that you can work on to lessen the load, by all means, do so. Learn to say “no” and don’t make more commitments than you can handle.

6.Examine your diet. Be sure that you are getting enough healthy foods to eat in a nutritional, balanced way. Getting enough vitamins including B vitamins, niacin and thiamin will help to support your central nervous system.

You can absolutely get a handle on your life and stop panic attacks. There have been so many developments in medications and treatments and they are widely available. All that you need to do is to gather up the courage and seek out the help that you need.

Many panic attack sufferers have used self-help techniques to stop panic and anxiety attacks, and up to 92% of panic attack victims have had success in employing these techniques.
