There's big news at the sportsbook Tuesday since the UCLA Bruins contracted 2 highly touted recruits.

Only 3 weeks following their transfer from North Carolina, David and Travis Wear contracted with UCLA. The Bruins a more serious threat against the odds at the offshore sportsbook in the forthcoming years with the inclusion of the 2 twins.

Sportsbook odds already have the Bruins as contenders in the Pac-10. Two years from now, with the inclusion of the Wear brothers they should be even better. UCLA head coach Ben Howland was thrilled to get the two 6-foot-10 forwards. The twins live in Huntington Beach, California so they are pleased to be close to home. They decided to go with North Carolina instead of UCLA coming out of high school but now they have transferred out. Davis added 2.9 points and 1.7 rebounds a game while Travis averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds for each game for North Carolina. Since they transferred, both players will have to sit out next season but they still will have enough time to make an impact at UCLA.

"The boys are very excited to have been considered by 2 of the best schools in the country and to commit to UCLA now," said their father, Dave Wear. "It's an exciting day for them. With being close to home and being back in Southern California and being in the UCLA program, it's an exciting time for our family and UCLA."

This past season was not a great one for UCLA in college hoops. It's rare for a Ben Howland-coached team to struggle but the Bruins did last year. At the offshore sportsbook, they were 14-18 straight up and 13-16 vs the odds. Don't look for the struggles to continue at UCLA. Howland is a fantastic coach and he will get the Bruins turned around quickly. Acquiring the Wear brothers should make UCLA even better. They won't get to play next season but the Bruins are really looking at being a national title contender down the road so the two brothers should help them in that regard. They will get a chance to practice this season with the team and in 2 years they should be ready to make a serious impact.

Michael Roll averaged 14.1 points per game and led UCLA last season. At 3.6 assists per game, he also led the team in assists. It was not a banner year for the Bruins as they had shed a lot of talent from the year before. Watch for UCLA to be much better this season and keep an eye on UCLA 2 years from now when the Wear brothers get a chance to compete and impact college hoops.

UCLA Bruins' basketball has enjoyed remarkable success as a team. They were in 3 consecutive Final Fours from 2006 to 2008, and they have turned out 11 NCAA championships. From 1971 to 1974, UCLA Bruins' won an unprecedented 88 consecutive games. It's a record that is viewed as unbreakable by several sports pundits. Preferably the inclusion of these twins will simply serve to maintain the legacy of the team.
