To start off with, I'll start with Google’s Adsense. Google reviews your site and its textual content and determines which of it’s adverts are best matched for your web site content. By peforming this it hope to display advertisements that are most likely to be of interest to your blog's visitors. Your blog then earns an income when your visitors click on these adverts to view sites - with the majority of these clicks earning you cash. How much you earn is determined directly by how many clicks your adverts are receiving and what subject your website concentrates on. Some subjects are worth far more per click than other subjects.

Another popular system is Amazon. With this setup you can promote individual products from within their catalogue or you allow their system display their selection of products from your chosen keyword. You just choose a keyword and they show the books (or other ranges, if you wish) that are appropriate to that keyword. On a blog this may result in just using one keyword to cover the entire site, but that shouldn’t be a problem. You can also show more specific links on individual posts. Here you are earning money every time a new customer clicks through to the Amazon web site and then goes on to purchase an item.

ClickBank is another popular choice, this time selling electronic downloaded books. As with Amazon you can show specific products or use a frame that has all e-books that are related to a keyword. Again, you are making an income for every purchase made after a click on your pages.

General affiliate schemes are usesful, but I highlight the above three schemes as they offer something that most of the others don’t offer - they aren’t geographically dependent. Most affiliate schemes are only paying for in traffic from their own country, as distributing to another country causes headaches. Google gets around this by offering adverts only related to the country the visitor is in, whilst ClickBank can happily sell to most countries, as it is providing the items electronically. But if you are very specific and not expecting much traffic from outside of your own country, then there are obviously a whole choice of affiliate schemes for you to join and take part in.

Lastly, there are a wealth of pay per post schemes. Not without their own issues, here you earn an income for writing a post within your blog that acts as a referral to the advertiser. The income vary, depending on the campaign and your own blog. But you can typically only become a member of such services with an established blog. Blogs must be typically 90 days old. The fee your blog can earn depends on its subject matter, the advertisers and how many posts you are able to post.
