There are literally hundreds of easy skateboarding tricks you can learn. Some of them are simple and you will master them in a short amount of time. Others can and will take some more time and serious dedication. Sometimes injuries too. However, there are some great tips which help you learn and have fun at the same time.

Don't compare youself with experts

Remember that the experts have insane amounts of experience. Therefore you should expect them to make it look easy. If you start getting worried that you are not as good as some expert you have seen in videos, or even some guy down at the park who is better then you, you are only going to demoralise yourself. In the worst case, you might completely give up. That's not what we want to see.

By the same token, you should listen to those who are better then you. They will often give you very good advice on what you are doing wrong. Don't be afraid to ask, either.

Don't bite off more then you can chew

A typical mistake in learning skateboarding tricks is to try too many at once. Instead, you should focus on learning only one or two at a time until you have them under control. After this, you can add more to your list and continue to practice the others. As an added benefit, the progress will be much more obvious, encouraging you to push on. Be patient with your improvements, it's going to take a while.

Equipment and Location

Generally, you should make sure you have the right equipment. You may not realize it but the type of trucks and wheels that you are using to perform the tricks on can make a big difference. Detailed advice here is outside of the scope of this article, but you should be able to do some research on your own, and ask others for advice.

The surface that you perform the tricks on can be a factor in the beginning. Depending on the trick, you may just need a flat surface. Some can only really be done on asphalt while others require a smooth surface. You will work this out with experience.

Also, as you get better, varying your location can often result in faster improvement as you learn how to account for different types of angles, surfaces and locations.

Technique and Bad Habits

From the start you should to make sure you learn the trick correctly, without picking up bad habits. Once these habits are picked up, they can be hard to break if you have been stuck in the motion for a long time. To help prevent this, watch videos at home, reviewing your own tapes if possible and listen to the advice others give you. Most of the time they actually do want to help you out.

Be Safe

Injuries are basically the worst thnig for your progress. If you hurt yourself enough, not only will you be out of action fora while, but next time you'll probably be a little scared to go for the same trick. You should try to follow safety guidelines when you perform tricks. There is a much greater risk of falling when you are first learning new ones. You should wear a helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Statistically you won't listen to this advice, but you'll pay for it later.

In Summary

It is usually a challenge to learn new skateboarding tricks for beginners but the results are worth it. Start out with the basic ones and work up to the more complicated ones once you've nailed the others. Remember that skateboarding should be fun, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to learn moves, especially ones you really aren't ready for yet. That said, don't be afraid to step out of the comfort zone and try something new. Pushing the boundaries is often one of the best ways to learn.
