If the shower is a surprise, the host can put in a photo of the expecting mother as guest of honor to the invite along with a warning that the party is meant to be a surprise. On some occasions the father to be is showered as well. The baby shower invitation can include the silhouette or caricature of the expecting couple. Keep in mind though, if a party is being thrown for a couple, the host should stay away from frilly themes and focus on the couple instead. Creativity is a plus, the mother or couple will appreciate all the time and care you put into the shower for their baby to be.

Make sure when you are wording the invitations you can come up with something witty and capture the attention of the potential guests. For example, "we've got a lot to do, there's a baby due" is a great attention getter and the potential guest now feels compelled to jump into the baby celebrating mode.
