With raw materials running out and waste increasing, every one of us is now under more pressure to not only make more use of what we have but to also recycle what we have used, but should this be mandatory or a choice.

Many council’s in the UK are now becoming tougher on those that do not recycle, mainly because these councils have made it much easier to recycle your waste, with more types of collection and more recycling centres in your local area. Some would say that recycling is something everyone should do to make sure this planet survives for many more years to come, but some would also argue it is a choice that should be made by the individual concerned.

In case you are undecided, we look at the reasons to recycle and why recycling makes sense below:

Helps Cut Down On Landfills – Space is running out in the UK to find more landfill space to dispose of the waste that we can’t recycle. Sadly, a lot of items that get thrown away and end up in the landfill could be recycled, it’s just that people do not take the time to sort through their rubbish and sort it out correctly. More councils’ are now becoming very strict when it comes to how you recycle and this is really to not only help the environment but also because space really is now at a minimum to create more land fill sites.

Helps To Re-Use Material – Recycling is basically reusing a product or material, whether it’s straight away reuse, like a piece of furniture or whether it has to go to a factory to be made into something else. The more material we can reuse instead of having to use more of the original source the better, as if you take paper for example, if we can recycle our paper we will not have to cut down so many trees to make more.

Very Easy To Do – One of the biggest reasons or excuses that people use to not recycle is that they do not have time, which to be honest, is a total misjudgement of how easy it is to recycle products. Nearly all the councils in the UK offer some kind of door to door recycling collection service and you will never be far from a place where you can take your recycling if that particular material is not collected from your doorstep as part as your refuge collection.

Helps Our Planet – Arguably the most important reason of all the ones listed above, every time you recycle a piece of cardboard or a newspaper, you are helping to save the planet by re-using the same material for future products. For example, instead of having to cut more trees down to produce more paper, recycling old paper means new paper can be made without the need to destroy more forests.
