We all have skills inside us that we need to cultivate and develop to achieve our goals. We may not have a good opinion of ourselves and fail to see that we have many good qualities. When we are unaware of our purpose in life discovering what we intend to do can be a great adventure.

Lets look at a few qualities we have that help us to achieve our goals, and consider their meaning. We can then work out what it is we need to work on and what type of self improvement book we may need.

Be Inquisitive: this is a quality that helps us to learn and achieve. When a person is curious, they inquire when questions require answers. Go as deep into the topic as you can and fully understand the things you do. Some times being inquisitive is not appropriate, people prying to learn something that is not their business are considered nosy and sometimes employers do not wish to be questioned, even about something that you may think is your business. Learn something everyday. If an employer does not have the time to explain search the internet or books for answers. Every subject under the sun has been written about in self improvement books. A self improvement book on setting goals will have many tips to help you learn.

Focus your attention. The focal points are where you need to concentrate. If you are focused, you are concentrating on something that means something to you. Opportunity may knock quietly, if you are focused, you will still hear. Read about the 80:20 rule, it suggests you should focus on the 20% that is important as the other 80% has little value. As you develop your focusing skills, you will soon learn to hold your thoughts together more easily.
Meditation self improvement books and audios can help to bring your brain under control.

Willing & Able. Your attitude to work and achievement needs to be ready, willing and able. People who are willing to face each new challenge confront problems and solve them. Step out of your comfort zone and be willing to take a risk or two. Being willing to change defeatist or negative thoughts means you can just get on with it and get things done. Try new things and be willing to fail as well as succeed, we actually learn more from failure than we do from success.
All kinds of success can be achieved by changing attitudes with self improvement books.

Setting and organizing goals. Being organized means you can put your goals in order, by systemizing, arranging, and sorting them out. You learn more about yourself and what you want doing this. Sort out your goals so you can plan the steps to achieve them. Prioritize essential goals and tackle them first. Some people set the steps for their goals in time frames of daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and 5 yearly. Organizational self improvement books include office and home organization as well as goal setting.

Work and life balance. Why put off till tomorrow something that can be put off till the day after that? Do it. When it is all done, then is the time to rest and relax, not first thing in the morning when you are just feeling lazy. Don't stress yourself out trying to achieve too much. You need to enjoy life but the only thing you'll achieve through relaxation is peace. If that is your goal, that's fine. If you want to get out of debt or buy a new house, you'll need to work on your income. Find out what triggers your motivation and makes you act on your decisions. Look for self improvement books on motivation and on overcoming procrastination. There are also some great self hypnosis CDs available on motivation and overcoming procrastination.

One good self improvement book on goal setting can change your life. One step at a time, each step perfect, you can improve some aspect that is holding you back and change your life.

Getting something you desired is exhilerating. Perhaps things won't go exactly as planned but people are still often content despite this. Some people are sad no matter what they try to do to change it. I cannot believe however that no positive emotion will come from achievement. Isn't that rush of elation worth more than anything else in the world? Think back on your last moment of joy. Start there. Reach out for your hearts desire and if you need to read a book to achieve it, go read a book.
