Self-confidence is not found in the skilled application of makeup, an overnight cream that promises to give a smooth and clear complexion, or in the rigorous workout completed faithfully. Though makeup, proper skin care, and a dedication to hard work and exercise are vital to the success of your pageantry career, if you lack self confidence and appear nervous while competing, you will discover that success is continually out of your grasp.

One of the most important steps to ensuring that you have great self-confidence is to smile. Smiling is the key ingredient to letting the judges as well as the audience know that you are in your element. Looking at the judges directly while smiling will exude an air of self-confidence and poise. Never forget to smile when you are competing.

If you love competing, yet find that you are a bundle of nerves, you may want to try some relaxation techniques such as deep breathing. Deep breathing originates from the abdomen and can work wonders at relaxing you before you compete. To begin with, take a deep breath while expanding the lower abdomen. While you inhale, it is important to extend your stomach. Let the air flow from your abdomen into your lungs. Slowly breathe in while expanding your abdomen for a count of eight. Once you have reached the count of eight, hold your breath for a count of four. Now, slowly exhale for a count of eight. Let the breath flow from your nostrils controlled, while you feel your lungs contract, and then slowly let your abdomen contract. A series of three deep breaths before a competition can work wonders at reducing your nerves.

There is no better time to show the judges as well as the audience your highly developed level of self-confidence then during your interview. Public speaking is an important skill to master and once you feel comfortable in this area, you will have made tremendous progress in your pageantry skills. Not only is public speaking vital to winning beauty pageants, it is a skill that will help you in many areas throughout your life. Pronouncing each word correctly is important and shows that you have intelligence as well as charm.

Some important things to consider when you are speaking throughout your interview, is to speak with self-assuredness and confidence. Your tone of voice will also convey a lot about the level of self-confidence you have. Practicing speaking in front of a mirror is a good idea. Also, use your friends and family members as surrogate judges and practice speaking to them. Reading aloud and answering practice interview questions is a great way to boost your confidence and help prepare you for the actual interview part of the pageant. With a great smile, self-assuredness, a clear speaking voice, and plenty of self-confidence you will find that you will have a great experience with your pageantry.
