They are mainly for the purpose of keeping the flowers alive; here is a quick look at some of what could be considered the male components of the flower.

Stamen

This is the male part of the flower, it is made up of the filament and anther, this is the pollen producing part of the plant. The number of stamen is usually the same as the number of petals. For those of you who have allergies you are well aware of what pollen is, but pollen is very important when it comes to flowers.

The Anther

This is the part of the flower that produces and contains pollen. You will typically find it at the top of a long stalk of a flower.

Filament

This is the stalk that the anther sits on top of.

Flower petals

Petals are those beautiful colorful parts of the flower that attracts us to them in the first place. If you every look closely at most petals you will notice that there is green leaves at the bottom of them. These green leaves are what are referred to as sepal; the purpose of the sepal is to protect the inside of the flower before it opens. If the flower did no have a sepal then most likely it would die off before it had a chance to bloom. This process is important as any other process and is important for the longevity of the flower.
