Safelists DO Work!

Definition of a Safelist

A safelist is a group of marketers who have agreed to receive ads from each other. When you join a safelist, you have the opportunity to send your email advertising to all the other members of that particular safelist. In turn you will receive all their email ads. If you don't have a mailing list of your own, safelists are an excellent way to have an email campaign. Even if you have your own list safelists can be a profitable addition to your overall email marketing campaigns.

Advantages

One of the primary reasons for safelist use -- it's a safe way to get your marketing emails out to a large audience totally without accusations of spam. When you sign up for the safelist you must double opt in to receive safelist emails. This means that you aren't sending spam when emailing these members. Additionally even if a receiving safelist member BELIEVES your message is spam, they won't be able to turn you in for it. The email did not come from your email address, but rather from the safelist's own servers. This advantage is the very reason for the term "safelist."

Secondly, safelists are loosely targeted to online marketers. In general these are the ones who have not yet achieved the kind of success where they have unlimited advertising budgets. Therefore, they are the perfect prospects for you if you have a related business opportunity, instructional course, or product. Safelists are somewhat less effective for more specialized products, but even there success can be had with careful use of the right safelists, and just as importantly, the right category choice.

Should I Stop Using Safelists When My Own List Gets Big?

Never! There's no better place to find new online marketers. These are the people you want to attract to your own email marketing list. Sure, it's a kick to have a well-known marketing expert on your list, but realistically, what would such an expert ever buy from you? He/she probably already has it. And what they don't have, they'll have made for themselves! They won't market your products when they can build them and market them on their own. New marketers might.

Use safelists to commence building your own email list. You can do this by giving something away free in exchange for joining your mailing list. Make sure it's something of value. An eBook with nothing new to say may get an addition to your list, but your chances of keeping that name there aren't so good. But if you've really handed out some secrets that a new online marketer could use to make his first income, he'll follow you forever!

Safelists Used By the Biggest Internet Marketers

Many gurus started out by using safelists as their only marketing outlet. Mike Filsaime has spoken in seminars of how he built his first list to 7000 members using only safelists. This list was profitable enough for him to start him on his very profitable online business. Indeed he and many other gurus use safelists all the time. The only difference is that, unlike me, they probably hire people to do the posting and tracking.

Don't believe those who say safelists are a waste of time. Safelists can be profitable when they are used correctly. Every Internet marketer, new or experienced, should use safelists as an important segment of their overall email campaign.
