You probably already are aware that there are way too many homes on the market and that more keep coming because of foreclosures. Most of the realtors will tell you that the term staging house to sell is essentially having house stagers or yourself re-decorate the inside interior of your house and some staging of outside furniture. This process is a pain in the neck and I want you to imagine what it would be like if you didn’t have to do this step.

First thing let’s discuss what staging house to sell means. From my experience in selling my house here is what we did:

First: We de-cluttered all of the closets. You want to make the closets look empty and give the appearance that there is plenty of storage room in your house.

Second: We removed 95% of the family photographs sitting on the table tops and left only a few in place.

Third: We took down a lot of artwork and replaced some of these with pictures the stagers had in storage for such an occasion.

Fourth: We hid all of the cords going to the television and electronic equipment. We got baskets with lids and put the excess footage of the cords into the basket.

Fifth: We threw out existing plants and re-placed with baskets containing ivy plants or other fern looking plants.

Sixth: We thoroughly cleaned the house. Cleaning things that you might have put off for years.

Seventh: We replaced front door and storm door including new locks.

Eighth: We disposed of over-sized furniture and moved a lot of furniture out to make the home look larger.

Ninth: We cleaned patios, grills, lawn furniture and re-arranged the outdoor furniture.

Tenth: We got a dumpster and pitched and pitched clutter to open up all spaces in the house.

Now if this seems like a lot of work it is. You can bring in house stagers to do the job for you or you can do it yourself. Now you have a glimpse of what the term staging house to sell really means. There is lot more to it than I have time to go into here but the above list will give you an idea. I personally would never do it again.

By the time you are done you will be exhausted, spent some money, and be pleased with your work but will have a burning question in your mind as to whether or not it will make a difference. Nobody can tell you whether it will work or not.
