If you are looking for a change of pace and look in your place, you might consider roman blinds.

There is a lot that goes into have a one-theme house. Getting a home that flows and ties all together seamlessly requires a lot of planning and work. To some, this implies that it also requires a lot of money through purchases of new décor. This could mean buying new furniture, floor options, or even renewing the paint on the walls to add a little spice to a lifeless room. Many interior designers might tell you to save yourself a little bit of that hassle and try to spruce up the room by tying smaller things together. Solid places to start are the drapes and wall decorations.

But even simpler than this might be changing up things like the blinds, which can carry a lot of weight towards the end product when they really work with a rooms existing set up.

But what blinds should you get? There are so many different types, colors, and shapes... Where do you begin? An intriguing place to start might be with roman blinds. They don't hold the look of traditional blinds, and with that being said, can breath some life into your favorite rooms. A roman blind is all one piece and lays flat when it's covering the window, and then folds up into itself (via pleats in the fabric) when you draw it to see out the window.

But are they worth getting? Unless you find yourself a bargain, redecorating with roman blinds can get rather expensive. They are undoubtedly much more expensive than other types of blinds you can pick up at major chain stores, but there are a lot more options too. For instance, you can have quite an array of difference in roman blinds because they hinge on the fabric being used, and not pieces of wood or plastic that can get rather drab.

Some people see the price tag and go running for the hills, and with the economy being as it is, it's not surprising. There are ways to have this high-class look in your home without succumbing to a steep price. There are methods to create this look at home, requiring you to only purchase the materials that make up the blinds. There are several methods of the DIY approach, and most of them say the same things with slight variations. I can give you a brief overview of the process this entails.

As with any window dressing, you have to measure the window's width and height. This will give you the measurements for the fabric. When cutting the fabric, make it 2 and a half inches wider and 4 inches longer than the window's measurements to account for the concealment of the nylon cord and sewing in pleats. You have to measure for these pleats, which a typical 48" window will require 4. Then you sew in the rings and the nylon cord and you are ready to hang.

There are obviously more specifications to creating a roman blind at home, but these patterns and directions are simple to find through any search engine. But this takes work, and in some cases, several tries. You could save yourself the trouble and get a professionally made blind much more easily for a little more out of pocket.
