Rhodes Has The Perfect Combination

Have you ever felt obliged to pick a new holiday destination, just because you didn't enjoy your last location? Typical isn't it, you experience a problem and then try to work out a way to prevent it happening again. The solution may not be ideal, simple to track down or even cost effective, but it will be worth it , should the same problem look like arising again.

The centre court roof at Wimbledon is one example of an over-engineered solution. Since it was put into place last year, the wet weather that was the scourge of so many wet tournaments and caused frequent hold ups in the past has strangely disappeared. The new roof has barely been required. Another weather-related example is the insistence of specifying air-conditioning in new cars. In this country, years with week after week of hot summer weather are a rare occurence, in fact I think the last one was 7 years ago, but many would be reluctant to forgo their precious air-con, something that is is really only needed for 2 weeks of each year.

Even though holidays abroad have been relatively more expensive than holidaying at home over recent years, a continuous run of poor summer weather looks like it has finally persuaded those who like sunshine during their annual break to head abroad again this year. The hotels, bed and breakfast establishments and caravan parks that for the past year or so have fullup and were turning people away last year, may find trade slightly different now and through no fault of their own.

The one controlling factor, where holidays are concerned, is the weather Without great weather some of the world's busiest holiday resorts would simply not be there. Of course not every location relies purely on weather alone to attract visitors.

Some have beautiful scenery like the Swiss Alps, some are blessed with amazing beaches, like many of the Greek Islands and Ibiza, and some places are packed with areas of historic interest, such as Malta, parts of Turkey and Menorca.

For somewhere that can make claims in all categories, look no further than Rhodes. Of course it satisfies on the weather front, having a run of almost guaranteed warm weather and sunshine for six months of the year at least. It is also a very beautiful island, both around its coastline and inland. In terms of transport links, the island can be reached by boat, with many Greek Island ferries passing by, but most people will arrive by taking a flight to Rhodes and landing at its efficient, modern airport near Rhodes Town. For those who like to spend time on the beach there is a full choice of locations, from the busiest and largest beaches of the main resorts to more remote coves and inlets, some of which are easier to get to by water, such as Stegna beach and Ladhiko beach. Several beaches, such as those at Tholos and Fanes, are favourite hang outs for wind-surfers.

Rhods also has places that cater for the younger nightclub generation. Faliraki, which claims to have 600 bars and clubs, is the resort that many younger holidaymakers will book and it caters for them perfectly, although those seeking a more peaceful holiday, will hopefully have done their homework and selected a quieter location on the island.

The Palace of the Grand Masters, the harbour area and the medieval walls all indicate that Rhodes was once a strategic and powerful city that was rich in culture as well as being an important trading hub. In fact, as you read more about the past of this amazing place, you can see that its history has been accurately traced back to 1500 BC. It really is a unique location and one that many return back to enjoy year after year.

So if parts of your last holiday casued you problems, either with the weather, lack of suitable beaches, perhaps with nothing much to do other than sit in the sunshine or the hotel or guest house was not up to scratch, then perhaps you should take a long hard look at the island of Rhodes. It can confidently claim to be able to satisfy on all fronts and that's why the travel industry there has been a stable and thriving one for many years.
