ISO containers are mainly used for storing and transporting goods, but what size storage container is right for you? Depending on what your storing or moving, there are different types of removals containers for different purposes.
The most common container products is the standard storage container. They come in 3 standard sizes 10ft container, 20ft containers and 40ft container sizes. A 10' container can hold 15.4 cubic meters of storage, as a 20' container can hold 33.3 cubic metres of storage, and a 40' container has double the storage again. If you are moving or storing the contents of your 1 bedroom appartment, then a 10 foot container should do the job. Though if you a moving the contents of a 3 - 4 bedroom home, then a 20 foot container or even a 40 foot container will easily make the move easier.
If you are moving bulky or awkward cargo, then a standard container might not be suitable. There are other container products such as open top containers, high cube containers and flat rack containers that are perfect for transporting or storing bulky goods.
High cube containers are practically identical to your standard storage container except that is an extra foot higher in height. Open top containers are also similar to standard ISO containers except that there is a removal tarpaulin roof instead of a standard steel roof.Flat rack containers are commonly used for transporting bulk cargo as they have open sides with fixed or collapsible ends. They do not have a roof so you can load the flat rack container from either the sides or from above with a crane.
When buying or hiring a storage container, delivery is something that will need to be arranged prior to ordering. 10' and 20' storage container sizes are usually delivered by a tilt tray transporter, while 40' storage containers are delivered by a side loader transporter. A Hiab loader can also be used to deliver a storage container when delivering containers in confined areas, this is because the transporter has a mounted crane to lift and drop the storage container in place. Storage container hire is also an alternative if you're not looking to buy a storage container outright. Most shipping container companies have long term and short term storage container options available upon request.
There are also other specialised storage container products that storage container companies manufacture. The four main modified storage container products include site offices, portable workshops, dangerous goods storage containers and accommodation unit containers. These modified storage containers are fitted with numerous storage container accessories such as doors and windows, kitchenettes and ensuites, air conditioners, power packs, vents and whirlybirds just to name a few. Storage container homes are looking more and more viable for the small house and small living movement. Yearly, millions of storage containers arrive in Australian ports, but only a portion of these containers ever leave our consumptive shores. For many companies, the cost of shipping empty storage containers back across seas for reuse exceeds that of purchasing new ones. Add to that our negative balance of trade, and empty storage containers start piling up. Although the problem remains formidable, out of the box thinkers are coming up with great ways to make use of the hundreds of thousands of storage containers for sale that are literally stacking up around the world. As it turns out, with a little spiffing-up, used storage containers are ideal building blocks for prefab homes, and their reuse can provide answers to environmental and social problems alike.
