How often have you received your electrical bill only to toss it on the counter unopened, dreading the number in the amount due section? As energy prices continue to skyrocket, people all across the country are feeling the pinch in their pocketbooks and are looking for paths to reduce electricity bills. Plus, with the economy the way it is today, it seems to get harder every month to cope so each buck you are able to save on power bills is an extra greenback in your deposit account that will be used towards something else.

Luckily , there are a variety of ways you can dramatically contract your electricity bill that will not really change the way you live your day by day life. By implementing two or 3, or even all, of the following eight great tips on how to reduce electricity bills, not only will you be saving money, but you may save energy, too!

1. Set your water heater to 140 degrees or less. This may not only save energy, but water as well because if your water heater temperature is too high, the system will add cold water as a safety measure to prevent burns. Keep in mind that if you have small children or a baby at home, the recommendation is to set the thermostat to only 120 degrees to prevent scalds on their delicate skin -- this could basically save you even more money on your power bill.

two. Speaking of thermostats : install and electrical thermostat and set it 1 - 5 degrees lower than you normally would. For each degree lower, you'll save five percent of your energy usage.

three. Are you aware that Approx 20% of your home's heat will leak out from your windows and doors? By trying weather stripping to seal the doors and windows in your home, as well as a clear caulk to seal cracks in floorboards and window panes, you will be in your way to reducing electricity bill noticeably. Just think, by regaining that 20% of lost heat, you could probably lower your thermostat even more than the 1-5 degrees in tip 2 in order to save even more cash and energy!

4. This is a big one : when something isn't in use, switch it off -- not just on standby, either. This is for items such as personal computers, DVD payers and VCRs if you have them, printers, cell phonephone chargers and other such electronic kit that sucks up energy crazily. When these items aren't in use, they still consume a huge 35% of your house's energy simply by being left on. 35%! For your ease, you might use power strips to plug these items in to and when they are not in use, just flip the turn on the power strip and you'll be able to turn off multiple pieces of apparatus all at the same time.

5. Insulate your walls, roof and attic. By insulating your house, you are literally making a barrier that helps prevent heavy energy loss.

6. Buy and replace your incandescent light-bulbs with energy efficient compact fluorescent Edison style bulbs. CFL bulbs really reduce your energy consumption through light-bulbs up to 75% and since they last about five years, you may expect the lifetime savings of these bulbs to be between $400 and $1500. Too, you should remember that the executive has passed legislation that will do away with the standard bulb by 2012 in order to help reduce CO2 emissions and save energy. By starting now, you may save energy and money even earlier.

7. When washing your clothes, ensure you only wash complete loads. In addition, pt your washer settings on the coolest water possible for your material, only permit the quantity of water obligatory for your items and set the cycle to the shortest possible one that may get everything clean. This will save you quite a little bit of energy too.

eight. Ensure you get your appliances checked and serviced every year. Items like a furnace or hot water heater can develop loose gaskets and leaks that will need to be fixed. By having a qualified soldier out to check, not only could you prevent the cost of a surprising breakdown, but you can ensure your appliances are running efficiently and smoothly.

As you can see, many of those methods to reduce electricity bill basically won't cost you anything, yet the rewards are indeed quantifiable. So, what are you waiting for? Get in there start saving on your power and energy cost today!
