Recycling – It Is Amazing The Things That You Can Recycle

Many people think that recycling is made up of just glass, metal, paper and cardboard, but when you look into what can be recycled, the list is really impressive. From your batteries and computer to your old mobile phone and printer cartridges, all of these things can be recycled or re-used, which means as long as you have easy access to a local recycling centre, there really is no excuse not to recycle.

With UK households producing many million tons worth of waste every year, technology has meant that we can now recycle many more things, but it is still up to each and every one of us to make the effort to recycle, even if it does mean storage and logistic issues for the smaller households and the working family. Responsibility does lie on the individual home owner and occupier, but many would say local and district councils should also be doing more, something the Government is trying to influence by setting very high recycling targets for all of the counties and areas in the country.

Landfill sites in England and indeed the world, are becoming more and more full up and there is now less space for this rubbish to be dumped, so it is even more important that everything that can be recycled is. Many people know that your newspaper, empty tin of beer and your old spaghetti hoops tin can all be recycled, but very few people know the full extent of exactly what can be recycled, unless you have paid a visit to one of the many recycling centres and waste disposal sites around the country.

Below, you can see some of the things that can be recycled that maybe you thought could not be, with many of these items, products and types of material being accepted at many of the larger recycling centres dotted around the United Kingdom.

Many of the things listed above are recycled in a variety of ways. Vehicles are often crushed, melted down and then used to make other things, where as printer cartridges can be refilled or recycled to be used as other products. Mobile phones can often be distributed to the poorer countries once refurbished and many parts in a computer are often salvageable and can be used or destroyed to be made into other items.

Although education is important to get the message across that it is not just the four core materials that can be recycled, it is also important to take a trip to your local recycling centre or plant and have a look around. You will be amazed at all of the new things that can now be re-used or recycled to help save the environment, and the more of us that do this will only mean we can help to cut down on waste and start helping the world we live in get better, cleaner and more sustainable.
