It may be that having a good marriage and keeping it is one of the hardest things to do in life. All it takes is a look at the current divorce rate in America to see why. Even so, marriages remain bedrock institutions that shape the culture as a whole. Then why do marriages break down? There are some ways to identify marriage trouble before it destroys a marriage. If you want to know more, you might want to take a look at some of the following warning signs.

One sign of marriage trouble is a lack of intimacy in the relationship. Now, this involves more than physical or sexual intimacy. It means the companionable form of intimacy that urges you to do those special little things for your husband or wife that show them you love them and appreciate them. It may be fixing them coffee each morning or telling them that you love them. This doesn't exclude simple affection from the matter. Your marriage may be heading toward trouble if you don't have intimacy.

Another warning sign that may follow waning intimacy is a lack of respect for your spouse. Respect is an essential ingredient in your marriage relationship. If you don't have it, then you've removed something that is vital to your happiness.

Once intimacy and respect are lost, it is not uncommon to feel uncomfortable in the company of your spouse. Oppressive feelings may characterize your time together or you might feel suffocated. This is an unmistakable sign that your marriage trouble should be serious concern.

Marriages and relationships are colored by arguments and fights. Should this pattern of fighting stop, then there is chance one or the other spouse have quit on the relationship. It may be a legitimate assumption. The fights that happened prior to finding a compromise or a solution have come to an end.

By the time you stop talking with your husband or wife at all, you've now entered a dangerous level of marriage trouble. This is because communication is the essence of your marriage. When it does stop, your marriage could be running into disaster. There is little reason to doubt it now. When you cannot even talk to your spouse about your feelings, you may begin assuming things. You may even begin to believe things that aren't really happening. It is not uncommon for feelings of frustration, resentment, and anger to overwhelm you.

The most severe level of marriage trouble is when one spouse has a romantic affair with somebody else. All of the other signs can lead to this result. A person commits adultery in most cases because they have been neglected, undervalued, even ignored by their spouse. The cheating spouse is often yearning to find the intimacy, respect, companionship, and communication that their spouse has denied them. While affairs may vary in complexity or extent depending on the person, it should be understandable what factors contributed.

What this means is that you must be mindful to prevent these warning signs in your marriage and attempt to develop a strong relationship with your spouse. This is what you must do if you wish to keep trouble out of your marriage.
