Calculate the cost of individual parts if you will be doing the work yourself; also factor in the cost of labor if you will be hiring someone to complete the work for you. Add together the initial cost of the vehicle, the cost of parts (or parts and labor), and the approximate amount of time you think you'd spend on the vehicle if you will be working on it yourself. Decide whether it is a smart financial and time investment before you place any bids or make any purchases. The conventional belief is that if the rebuilding process takes too much time, or the car or truck isn't already able to run (albeit poorly) before the project is begun or shortly into the project, that the project will never be completed. The last thing anyone needs is a several thousand dollar paperweight, so do your homework first and try to avoid overwhelming yourself with a project for which you are under experienced.
