Troubles greet this portraitist, a lady from Pasadena each time she needs to render an artwork of her unpredictable muses. Mostly well bred subjects greet her but she will never be able to get them posing as courteously as mother did for whistler. The subject dictates when the sitting is done as it will only allow her a few minutes before he runs off to go about his affairs, enabling her to make a brief assessment at its aristocratic features and a bark or a twitch would signal that it was time to go.

Since her portrait subjects are dogs, she, in the sunny second floor studio of the 67 year old house she occupies with her husband, does most of her preliminary sketching with an instant camera. She encounters dog subjects posing better than other subjects such as cats. Appearance conscious dogs, specifically those who are well trained show breeds pose in very superior ways.

Purebred canines are what most of her dog clients are. Mongrels are harder to paint than thoroughbreds who have a more distinct coat color and skeletal structure. Her very favorite subjects are purebred hounds, since the hound's hair is so short that the fine structure of his body very clearly shows through. Moreover, she enjoys capturing the marvelous expression of these hounds.

She works at the local observatory as technical illustrator during the week and is also a well known water color landscape artist. Her best works are housed in a popular gallery. She learned to become a magazine illustrator after studying at an art school in New York. Painting dogs was something that one teacher asked her to try.

Using first hand knowledge, this animal lover would go around new York's dog show events to carefully study and draw the finest dog breeds. A portrait of a dog owned by a rich dowager from New York was the first commission she got. The painting of the dog which was felice signed took its place beside the lady dowager's original Rembrandt and Frans Hals paintings after it was framed elegantly. Later on, the artist published a well received sketch book with her studies and description of every breed listed by the American kennel club.

Their Pasadena home only welcomed them 23 years ago in the year 1913 and this craftsman's home had a nice room for a serious artist to work in, found on its second floor. For the sake of posterity, most pet lovers bring their dogs here so that they can be painted by her. Charcoal and oil are also good mediums for her to depict her four pawed clients, but then she would rather use pastels. She often has more subjects than she can handle especially at Christmas time.

An average portraitist of human beings spill flattery for their subjects once in a while and she reveals she does this to her subjects too. Currently being raised by her and her retired electrical engineer spouse are purebred hounds known as salukis, whose line are found as early as the time of ancient Persia and Egypt.
