With only 100 days of the year left to go, many of us are asking what happened to those New Year Resolutions we so enthusiastically set at the beginning of the year. Well, if your goals aren't where you thought they'd be, you're not alone. At this stage of the year, many people have resigned given up ontheir goals or just found it too hard to get the time to work on them.

And if you ask the people who are on target to achieve their goals how they did it, they will most probably say it just comes down to perseverance. Commitment, Persistence, Stick-to-it-iveness, how ever you want to name it. And it is the people who have kept on trying who have achieved most of the important things in the world.

Perseverance is one of the most valuable qualities you need to achieve success in any field. And the best thing about perseverance is that anyone can be persistent as long as you believe in what you are doing and trying to do.

You already have the requirements to achieve using this quality, you were programmed with perseverance when you were born. That's why you learnt how to walk and ride a bike instead than giving up after your first fall.

Only rarely does perseverance not end in success. For example, it doesn't matter how persistent you are, you still can't get a square peg in a round whole. But no matter what your goals are, if you keep on keeping on, you will achieve success.

Of course, you also need to move forward to achieve success. You can be very busy being active while going in circles. When you don't move forward, you will not achieve success even when you persevere at it.

So the main factor in developing perseverance is making small steps, and achieving small achievements, which will eventually result in success with your goal. Think of eating an elephant, one bite at a time until eventually you finish the whole thing.

Perseverance often means learning something new, in order to achieve your ultimate goal. Investing in your knowledge is never a waste of time, effort or even money as you may be able to use your new knowledge and skills and to allow you to advance in some other area of your life.

Of course, perseverance will not be without setbacks. The key is to learn from the setback, then keep going forward. Learn from your mistakes and mishaps, and move forward to success.

So take the last 100 days of this year, set some goals, add a little perseverance and make 2009 a success. You deserve it.
