Google have a measuring tool known as PR = Page Rank
Every page on the internet will have a PR rating from 0 to 10
*************************************************
What is PR, and how is it worked out, and more importantly how do you multiply the PR rating for your webpage?
PR is a meaning of significance, when your page has a small rating of 0 your site is far less significant that a page that has a rating of 10
(If you run adsence on your website this will be reflected in the monetary value of your ads)
*************************************************
How does Google rank your web page?
Each web page that links into your web page is a vote and the more votes you have to your web page the more significant it will turn out to be, moreover each vote represents a value.
As an example I posted an entry on a forum that included a link back to my main site and the PR rating for this backlink is 0.03 so if I had ten of these backlinks at this value my page would have a PR of 0.30…. not even a rank of PR1.
Being aware my PR was minimal I came to the assumption we will need 100 of these backlinks at this value to give my web page a PR3 rating
Some back links to your site might not have a value of 0.03 it could be higher or even a great deal worse.
*************************************************
How is the value of each vote (Link) calculated?
In this example we will use 2 web pages with dissimilar PR ratings
The first web page has a PR of 2 and has 10 links going out.
2 Divided by 10 = 0.20
The next web page has a PR of 6 and has 100 links going out.
6 Divided by 100 = 0.06
The assumption being you would be better off having a backlink on the lower ranked PR2 page as it has a vote value of 0.20 in contrast to just 0.06 from the higher ranked page.
The calculation of this case in point have been simplified to help you appreciate the important conception.
This is the true calculations Google uses
PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn))
The true Google calculation (Above) works out at almost 85% of a Page Rankings value is used for outgoing links.
(If your page is rated PR1 85% of this will be used for outgoing links 0.85)
PR is Google’s way of deciding a page’s significance. It matters for the reason that it is one of the conditions that shape a page’s ranking in the search results. It is not the only issue that Google uses to rank pages, however it is an important one.
At this point we should state you do not hand away your ranking by having outgoing links, you are not transferring your PR out.
In general nearly all links back to your web page, either internal or external will give your PR a increase and are worthy for your website.
This should give you a fundamental understand of “Page Ranking” and improve with any future plans you have to increasing traffic to your site.
