A lot of parents may be unaware of something quite terrifying. It is common knowledge that there are internet predators about, but most people assume this is a small number, something that will happen to other children. Sadly the truth is there are far more around than you would care to know. The internet is swarming with sex offenders and pedophiles who's sole aim online is to get talking to vulnerable children. You can find out if somebody bad is talking to your child by doing an online background check.

There is currently a group of such sex offenders attempting to alter the law and enable them to do what they wish on the net. Most of these predators are convicted, and will hang around on the internet with other convicted offenders, it is quite obvious what such a group of people will be up to online. All they do online is look for unaware children. I think you would agree simply thinking of this is scary enough, but what if they managed to get talking to your child? It is your duty as a parent to protect your child. The following is some good advice on how you can protect your children over the web.

One - Never allow your young child to upload pictures of themselves on the internet. You should not post pictures of them either, be it on social networking sites or blogs. Just do not do it. It is not uncommon for predators to take pictures from other peoples websites or social page, and upload them to pedophile websites.

Two - Be sure you know exactly who your children are speaking with online, and when. It is common for predators to try and strike up a conversation with children. Predators will usually talk to children for months to gain their trust, before suggesting they meet.

Three - If you are worried about the true identity of one of their online friends, find out who exactly they are. It is easy to check out who your child is really talking to.

You can visit a website which will do an online background check on somebody even if you only have their e-mail address. You can enter the e-mail if that is all you have, and will be informed if the owner of that e-mail address has been convicted of any crimes. You will be told their name, address and telephone number, as well as information on their criminal record. Such information will be priceless in finding out if your child is talking to the wrong people. If the check reveals the person is an adult, you should automatically be worried. There is no excuse for an adult to meet a child online and begin a 'friendship' with them.

If the background check reveals the person has been convicted of any crimes, especially sex offenses you should contact the local police straight away, and the FBI. Convicted sex offenders will usually re-offend, or at the very least view pictures of children and attempt to talk to children online, who knows where such conversations would lead if not stopped by you. It is vital that once discovered you contact the correct authorities. Convicted pedophiles are breaking the law simply by talking to your child. Always check out people you do not know who are talking to your children. Discover their true identity with an online background check. Be sure your child is protected. You can never be too careful when trying to protect your child, you may think doing an online background check is a bit much, but it really isn't, it is just good parenting and common sense.
