It has always been around in the area of dental care but recently, oral conscious sedation is becoming more popular in some areas. A local area dentist said this has been part of his management for years now. Successfully pulling wisdom teeth, performing root canals and executing crowns on a patient without pain is definitely a huge advantage.

Patients will become quite drowsy and relaxed, or even fall asleep, but enough consciousness will be spared to follow instructions and to respond to stimuli. Each patient will receive varying medication type and dosage. The apprehension level as well as the anxiousness dictates the choice to make. While one dose is enough for some, others will need more.

A responding dentist is confident in saying she has yet to encounter a problem related to oral conscious sedation. Proper training seals the safety of the procedure. The hazardous level is not reached until 35 pills. However, it will never be appropriate for pregnant or nursing women.

Fear has prevented nearly 145 million Americans from visiting the dentist. A lady shared her fear can be traced back to a dental appointment in her teenage years. She no longer remembers what was done to her in the dentist's office, but the pain is so clear to her memory.

Only some of the patients who chooses to have their dental procedures push through are there out of fear. Sedation in dentistry is sought to assure comfort for the patient despite the prolonged and problematic procedures. There are patients who copes well through the entire session even without the medication.

One more patient said the dental experience is not terrifying at all. Twice a year, she goes for regular cleaning but she also went through the sedation method when the crown procedure was prescribed to her. She was relaxed and almost asleep the entire process but the remaining consciousness she had allowed her to voluntarily turn her head and open her mouth wider whenever told. It is quite minor but if asked for a single inconvenience, it would be needing to have someone pick them up from the dentist's office because they will not be able to drive after popping sedatives for the procedure.

Sedation dentistry was not part of this dentist's plan several years ago. The only reason he attended was to gain more information for the benefit of his students. As he goes back to his office, he immediately had three volunteers to be patients and from that point he was sold.

It takes a whole team to be involved with a single dental procedure. Patients need to be operated on the moment the medication is given. The fear of dental procedures can be ultimately cut off because of one pain free dental management. Some patients will go to their appointment asking for a sedation regardless of the simplicity of the procedure. By doing this, dental problems waiting to happen, that they have been ignoring for a long time, may be avoided.
