What one thing can you do that will not only give your brain a boost, but impress potential employers and dates? Learning to speak a foreign language. Of all the foreign languages to learn, French is one of the most impressive. It is the language of culture and sophistication and is completely iconic. Despite all of this, nobody can say that French is outdated or irrelevant either, as it is the international language of democracy and is a driving force behind good culture and cuisine.

Many good options are available for learning French. When choosing a French language program you should definitely take into consideration your personal learning methods, but there are certain resources that are more effective than others, no matter your learning style.

Software programs tend to be very good since they often offer immersion environments in which you can learn the language in a more natural manner. If you are after a French language program that works well with your brain and makes the whole process easy and enjoyable, I would certainly recommend this option.

You could opt for some evening classes as well. This option offers less flexibility, though, as class times tend to be fixed. If you enjoy speaking in front of and learning with others, this will be a good option, but if that isn't your style, it can be a little nerve-wracking. Learning through evening classes can be quite expensive, too, since the individual classes tend to be pricey, and you will need to take lessons over several semesters to gain any fluency.

Self-teaching yourself with textbooks and guides is a lot more economical, but it is also the least effective method. Another flaw with these books is that they are a little one-dimensional and only offer a grammatical guide with a little vocabulary in between. Since you can't practice the spoken language and verify the pronunciations, this is not a very effective French language program. This explains why most of these books end up in a yard sale.

The most comprehensive French language program has to be a good online course. By their nature online courses are interactive, which means they are much more interesting than textbooks, so you can practice listening to and speaking French in an engaging manner. They also contain relevant content and are created in a way that will give you a good, methodical progression through the language. And since these programs can be used any time of the day or night, anyone can use them, no matter their schedule.

The ideal way of learning a language is through short, frequent lessons. This requires you to continually come back to the language to keep learning bit by bit. Thankfully, with an online French language program this is easy and enjoyable, so you can become fluent in the French language in no time!
