No More Heroes! (Life is not forever)

We have been subjected to action movies and TV shows our whole lives. We see the one hero coming to town, literally sweeping the only beautiful (leading) lady in town off her feet, then the hero gets plummeted by the bad guys, recovers, comes back to take out all the bad guys, then goes off into the sunset (leaving the lady behind). Of course this is fiction. It is made up, as in make believe that this is a true representation of our way of living. That there is a hero out there somewhere that will come rescue us from our problems. And we very much want to believe that this fiction is the truth. We ever elect action heroes to positions of power (i.e. the current and a previous governor of the State of California). But in reality, regardless of who is elected or assumes (often by force) positions of power, wars continue, violence continues, terrorism continues, and with no end in sight.

Not to get me wrong, I like these action moves, TV shows, and books as “action” implies something is happening. Yup the bad guys are going to get it, in the stories (and reality) some of the good guys are really going to be bad people, and often as not, the good guy (our hero) will win in the end. And I think when the store is done that there is justice in the world and everything is ok (warm and fuzzy). Least the time I spend watching or reading these stories is much better than the time (and a whole lot more) I spend driving to work, spending 8 (to 10 hours if I am on the fast track) at work, then the time driving home (often the whole way watching the tail lights of the car in front of me). Yes, hands up, action stuff time is much more interesting than work time (and I love me work because someone pays me to play with, err fix, their computers).

So where is this discussion leading? If you have read any of my other articles, you know the answer. However for those of you new readers, or those of you who need the reminder, the theme of this article is about war (violence/terrorism etc) and how to end it. How to end war? You are gotta be kidding (you might be thinking), mankind is so evil there can never be an end to war and violence. Well you are wrong and here is proof: The states within the United States of America have not had a war for two hundred years. And do you think there will ever be a war between one or more of these states in the future? No, probably not you will answer. And why will there never be another war between states? The answer is simple because there are laws against it! And more to the truth there is a much more powerful army that would intervene if there ever was to be such a war between states. And that is the United States Army that would be ordered to intervene. You see because the 50 individual states have combined into the United States, and there are now laws against war between these states and a more powerful army to enforce these laws, thus we have ended war, least within the United States.

However this has not ended war for the whole planet. And that is because there are no laws , no agreements, or even policies that prevents wars between nations. Yes, we created the United Nations after World War II as an attempt to unite the nations of the world, however since any standing member nation of the security council can veto any resolution, it makes the whole United Nations impotent. It has therefore been proposed that the free nations of the world that will subscribe to a doctrine of basic human rights for all people join together into this new United Free Nations Organization (see www.UFNO.org).

This new UFNO will be charged with the responsibility of creating world laws against war. And the member nations of the UFNO will combine their armies into a UFNO Police Force who will have standing orders to intervene in any aggression or war by any member nation towards any other nation. And if any non-UFNO nation makes aggressive moves or war against any member UFNO nation, the UFNO will have standing orders to intervene. Each UFNO member nation will be allowed a standing army in the form of a national police force (for example the United States Police Force) but only to enforce the laws within that nation and to defend itself against aggression by other nations.
