NIGERIAN FASHION WEEK DAY 1

The 6th Edition of Nigerian Fashion Week (NFW 09) began today at the Muson Center at Victoria Island in Lagos State.

Packed with some serious security due to the presence of Her Excellency the wife of the Vice President of Nigeria, the Chairman of the World’s Fashion Association and celebrities of the likes of Chidi Mokeme (who might I add was looking very fashionable indeed) to Joana Luana, the hype was definitively in the air.

As any other Fashion Show, the event started fashionably late due to the fact that we were waiting for the first lady to the vice president to arrive and officially declare the show open.

4 designers were to showcase in total and once the show was opened, we got to a very good start with our first designer.
Each designer was very unique in their collection which almost made me tear in the name of excitement needless to say the uming, arhing and clapping from the audience confirmed this excitement.

TOORAD the first designer used the track “street credibility” to showcase his collection which I though was perfect for his collection, very street n credible. There was also no perfect designer to begin with than Toorad because he is holding the current title for Nigerian’ best designer (2007 and 2008) hence no better way to begin than with our best of last year as a tease as to what to expect this year.
The last but certainly and by no means the least of the designers for today was MODELA COUTURE. In fact there were all indications that he was he favourite of the afternoon by the positive responses and have already been chosen to represent Nigeria at the World Fashion Week in 2010.
Need I say more about this designer? Think Africa, sequin, black and white, sci-fi, couture, you name it, he represented it somehow.

Phew, and to think this is only the first day.
ada ameh: Now do not get me wrong, there were some errors like the lighting and music ceasure but as Lexi Mojo who was hosting the show stated “ah ah, this is Naija now where anything can happen but the show must go on” and I agree there is no better time for errors than on the first day so that you learn from you mistakes and by the last day everything should be on point, almost like a test run.

“Would we see a perfect show by the last show (Gala Show)”? Lexi responded “you would see a perfect show by tonight” and after also speaking to the chairman of the world fashion association who was proud to have Nigeria as one of the WFA I mentioned “we hope to see you at the world fashion show in 2010 and his response was “No! I hope to see you there instead, If that is not a special invite ada ameh: special invitation, I don’t know what else is.

The event ended well for now as we’ll be at it till Thursday when the event ends with the Nigerian Fashion Awards and you best believe that we would be there each day with our fashion bibles bringing you the latest on our Nigerian soil. Till tomorrow adios my fashionistas
