ND - Concrete Forms

The greatest builder of all Roman Emperors, Hadrian would no doubt have much cleaner, better survived legacies today if Nuform had been around then. Using extruded polymer components, their Conform product line represents nothing less than practically snap-together forms which stay in place, are easy to clean, and are environmentally friendly. These forms are suitable for both load bearing and non-load bearing walls. The end result is an impressive structure, the building of which resulted from, ironically, thinking "outside the box".

Box concrete forms have been around of course for many, many years. As impressive as plywood and beam forms have been over the decades to see built, poured, and dismantled to reveal a concrete structure, Conform is more impressive still. It not only provides a structurally sound wall, it stays in place as a facia afterwards, sprays clean and stays good looking for a very long time.

Additionally, their water resistance is excellent. One test for basement use of the product showed that after being under a 5foot column of water for 24 hours, no water penetrated the interior face of the wall. This means that walls constructed with Nuform's Conform do not need any additional damp proofing or drainage layer on the outside when used below-grade. The same impermeability applies to vapor and air. When filled with concrete, it is an effective air barrier. Additional vapor barriers are not required when the product is used.

Biological pests make home sweet home out of gypsum wallboard and wood. Water absorbs into these materials in humid weather making them wet. Ground and rain water also assist in dampening these materials. The Nuform concrete forms, because of their polymer barrier, do not promote the growth of molds and mildews as water cannot penetrate them. The surface does not absorb and store moisture. Even high indoor humidity does not compromise the walls, as they are moisture resistant and vapor impervious.

These walls also have the benefits regarding termites that any concrete wall would possess, namely, that termites don't eat them. Subterranean termites, the most destructive type, and their wood living cousins cause billions of dollars of damage each year to wooden structures. More than one percent of housing structures in the United States are treated yearly for termite control.
An ounce of prevention, the old saying goes. Traditional wood framing has not been able to achieve the goal of termite resistance even through well-developed chemical treatment.

Concrete foundations often crack, leaving an open gate to subterranean termite infestation. Nuform's concrete form system Conform effectively eliminates these risks. Moreover, Conform stays on the job where this is concerned, remaining an effective barrier over time. Though settling and seismic activity may cause cracks in the concrete, the concrete is encased in a durable polymer shell, effectively keeping the gate closed to termites. And if that were not enough, the polymer shell is so smooth that termites cannot climb it, nor build shelter tubing on it as it will not stick. The interlocking pieces of the shell form joins that are so tightly fit, they do nothing to allow these activities, either. This was confirmed by Dr. Timothy Myles of the Urban Entomology Program at the University of Toronto.
