My Country! Right or Wrong???

Right or Wrong? What to do? We know what is right. Least we should. Deep down inside us, our senses and our feelings should guide us to do what is right because it is the right thing to do. And the urge to do the right thing should be stronger than our urges for sex, or money, or power, or beauty, or revenge, or booze, or even food! Yes, we are human beings and have survived by being beings struggling for survival. However, apart from the physical struggle to live (which we share with all other living things), our minds have evolved to where human beings are now masters of the known universe.

Well maybe not the only intelligent beings in the universe but so far the only super intelligent live forms found. Yes, there are other intelligent live forms on Earth, i.e. animals, and reptiles, and fish, as each living thing has some capacity to make decisions or instinctively perform behaviors that effect their survival. And yes there are animals, reptiles, fish etc that can run, smell, hear, see, etc better than human beings but I am talking about intelligence.

One example of intelligence comes to mind and that is the ability to think about morals and life and to construct these ideas into letters and words into a document stored on the Internet for anyone in the world to access. Of course flying to the moon or sending space craft to Mars and beyond are other examples of human intelligence.

However beyond the discussion of human intelligence is the pondering question of “Will the human race be able to survive for millions of years into the future?”. It is not a question of you or me surviving or even of our families or off-spring as a hundred years from today or when each of our off spring dies, no one will know about most of us. We will be like those people who lived a hundred years ago… just part of history. Yes, our names may be recorded in some family tree with the dates of our birth and death, and whom we have married and the names of our off spring, but for most of us, the record of our lives will contain little more. And a thousand years from now, if the human race survives, who will care much less remember anything about those who lived a thousand years before?

So again, let me repeat the question: “Will the human race be able to survive for millions of years into the future?”. Actually, let me rephrase the question, as the word “Will” should be changed to “How” as in “How can the human race be able to survive for millions of years into the future?”. I believe, as I have stated in my other articles, that it will be necessary for people to move beyond their feeling of obligation toward their countries into building a system of world government (starting with the free nations of the world), with a world police force, and a world court. Let me explain why.

We are taught as a child to pledge allegiance to the county where we were born. And as young adults (least for the males in the USA and both males and females in Israel) obligated to register at age 18 for the armed forces to be able to be conscripted (in-slaved) to fight in wars for the country where we were born… regardless if those wars are right or wrong. Yes, some countries don’t even do the registration part before forcing their citizens into military slavery but that little changes the fact that there is involuntary conscriptions, and slavery, and more to the subject continuing wars!

I am sorry but I can’t help but feel that the slogans “My Country, Right Or Wrong” is morally wrong and “Support Our Troops” is also saying “Support Our Wars!”. Especially not with the final outcome of wars to be the end of all live on Earth! Maybe not all life as maybe some species of cockroaches that may survive (possibly and eventually evolving into intelligent life) but certainly the end of life for human beings. So we need to rethink the construction of our system of individual nations and evolve into a worldwide social system (and government) that will endorse and protect basic human rights for everyone!

You may think me to be just an old man (that part true) chasing wind mills (not quite true) but who will join me in the struggle for a peace producing system of world government on earth?
