As a Multi-level Marketing Associate you have more than likely heard your upline say on many occasions that the fortune is in the follow up, but what is really understood by follow up? We are also told that it can take up to 7 follow ups for many people to come to a buying decision, so should we still continue to contact prospects even if they clearly are not interest in our offers?

When thinking about following up in MLM, most of us are likely to have a picture of nervously lifting up the phone to phone back everyone that rejected our offers in the previous month! This is why for most of us the idea of following-up in the usual manner is a very scary idea!

If your motive for phoning your contacts back is to try to persuade them to enrol in your business, then it should be clear why they are not particularly enthusiastic to answer your calls! That said, month in and month out we are usually still instructed by our mentor to repeat with this method until the frustration and disappointment overwhelms us and we either give up, or research another approach to build our company.

If you have found yourself in this situation in your MLM business then here are a few of things that you could adopt to ease the stress of the MLM follow up process.

If your aim is to expand your downline with the old-school word-of-mouth marketing techniques then the primary modification you may consider is to introduce your prospects to the industry of MLM before you introduce them to your opportunity.

The follow up process is generally made harder because prospects have unexpressed questions about the MLM industry, or home-based business in general, so give information about the MLM industry before you ever give them the option to look at your company.

If you encouraged people close to you to peruse information about an industry that you had become involved in, rather than pleading with them to join you, then you would be much more likely to uncover all of their objections and questions and therefore, get a good response. If they ask to find out more about your company once they have learned about the MLM industry then followup is going to happen much more efficiently.

As following up is about resolving questions, you can get most of this done successfully before you even introduce your own business. This will mean that your prospects will be more ready to make a well-informed choice once you have shown them your company.

If you are building your MLM business on the Internet then follow up can be automated by using an email auto-responder series. Each message that goes out to your prospects is the next step in the followup process.

When you are not familiar to your leads (i.e. on the Internet), it is important to use your follow ups to build good raport between you and your prospect. Therefore, it is even more important to share a wealth of free information about the MLM industry before ever introducing your company and opportunity. The secret to a good MLM follow up system Online is to find a balance between the 'free information' you give away to your contacts and the 'calls to action'.
