The 142nd racing of the Belmont Stakes odds is on Saturday with a field of 12 mounts expected to go to the post. Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box is the 3-1 morning line favorite with Preakness Stakes runner-up First Dude the second choice with odds of 9-2. Given that neither the Kentucky Derby champion nor the Preakness Stakes winners are in the race, the Belmont is expected to be pretty competitive.

Trainer Nick Zito has 2 mounts in the race and they're both serious contenders. Fly Down is the third choice at 9-2, but Ice Box is the favorite to win. Fly Down was the champion of the Dwyer Stakes and he might be the mount to watch on Saturday. He is the son of 2003 Mount of the Year Mineshaft. With Ice Box and Fly Down, Zito has 2 of the favorites. Zito won the Belmont earlier with 2 substantial longshot mounts, in 2004 with Birdstone and in 2008 with Da' Tara. Fly Down will be on his inside in post position number 5 with jockey John Velazquez, while Ice Box will start in post number six and will be ridden by Jose Lezcano.

Zito began his career being a hot walker. He climbed his way up through the ranks until he grew to become a trainer. His 1st big win was with Thirty Six Red in 1990, which won the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes and also concluded second in that year's Belmont Stakes. He won his 1st Kentucky Derby in 1991 with Strike the Gold.

In 2005 he was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame after his stable earned in excess of $8 million in winnings. He also spends a lot of his spare time with his wife doing work for the humane and fair treatment of mounts. He is a National Spokesperson and Honorary Director of the National Mount Protection Coalition and contributes to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

In 2006 Jazil, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, won the Belmont, which is the past time the Belmont odds didn't have either the Kentucky Derby champion nor the Preakness Stakes champion. Uptowncharlybrown will be sent by McLaughlin in this year's Belmont.
