A female doctor renowned in her field has achieved this through a roundabout route and by making this a tribute to her life's purpose, but he admits to taking some time out for the odd party. However, as we go back to high school, we see that she was not so single minded back then. Being a young girl from a local high school, she was torn between to career paths to be a linguist or to be a physician. Hedging her bets, she took all the sciences along with languages French, English and Spanish. Communication was definitely her strength and she looked on to the guidance of her Spanish professor in making her final choice. While the teacher told her that she can be a multilingual doctor, she can never be a linguist that is sometimes a doctor.

Her A-level subjects, pursued at the local community college, were therefore exclusively science subjects. After two years, the results were not as she envisioned it to be but it did not stop her. The only subject she passed was her favorite one, Chemistry.

She entered the university to do Natural Sciences with the intention to transfer to medicine after her first year. She was unable to do well enough thus she was unable to transfer but then she did enjoy this time very much. While she hoped to get A's, she mostly scored B's. Her drive to finish the course came out of this reason as well as her growing love for chemistry.

Her love for Chemistry allowed her to major in chemistry and food technology. She reaped her honors degree from this field. After she had graduated, she couldn't land a job. After leaving the university, she found herself unemployed. There simply were no jobs. Her search led her to the food industry. She wonders why she ever entered this when she got discouraged.

It was only a drug dealer who could offer her a handsome paying job when he saw her expertise with the area of industrial kettles. She describes that instance to be so alluring with the amount of money offered but then she made it very clear that she was taught by her parents to never consider money to be everything so she did not take the offer. She held on to her dreams of becoming a doctor as she kept applying in medical school. She accepted a teaching job while she was fearful and hopeless from not hearing anything from medical school.

A year later, deciding that she needed to earn money to attend medical school when and if she were accepted, she left the classroom and went to a commercial bank as a trainee manager the next year. She recalled she looked at the pros and cons and spoke to people who she knew and the consensus was that in the end she would still be an employee if she stayed with the bank. Medicine offered her the option of having her own business and doing what she wanted.

After two years, she got into medical school. Year one led her to a mixture of fun and learning as how it traditionally goes. She immersed herself in it. She was able to party hard and was never a book worm but managed to keep her grades up. First year, she received honors in community health and was in the top 10 per cent in Physiology. A sense of connectedness with people was something she gained in community medicine and that's why she was fascinated by it. You would go into homes and get the big picture of what your patient's lives were like. Exceptional was what she used to define the program.

She avers that she can really get squeamish when cutting cadavers up but then she won't get affected in an emotional way. But then we see a different story when Pathology comes in. She saw herself crying for 10 weeks after they had to autopsy the newly dead. These deaths made her feel the emotional loss. Thanks to her background in chemistry, she appreciated pharmacology. The function of chemicals in the body especially in addressing diseases truly fascinated her. She would visit the library for some journals and this was not her habit. All she knew and knew her were shocked as she took home an award in Pharmacology.

She was not able to become a bookworm for along with her five study mates, she developed a reputation for being an excellent party organizer. They all did well in their finals, in fact, three of them got honours. A handful of honors including a medal in gynecology was reaped by one of the members in her group. Now we can truly say that we didn't waste our time then.
