Legos and playing outside are what this boy loves and he also likes messing around on the computer plus penguins. A chance to see his beloved birds in the wild will be a possibility for this first grader early next month and he will see them waddle across the ice and feed their newly hatched chicks in Antarctica. As they venture into the Antarctic Peninsula, he and his parents will have an internationally known explorer and filmmaker along with them.

Only a handful of children his age have ever stepped onto the continent. He says it's pretty exciting, all of his friends are celebrating. When he leaves, so does his entire class and this is the reason for such behavior. Through an Internet linkup, they will be able to join the expedition without incurring many costs. The live video coverage they will be providing can be seen throughout the world.

An accessible site offers live question and answer forums as part of the pilot youth program. This is an experience where the teachers are planning on coming up with grade level activities building on the boy's dispatches. From weather for first graders, geology will be tackled by the fourth graders and fifth graders get forces in motion.

Adventure is what the family will surely have. The mother's role on the trip will be the voice of reason and this is what she shared together with how much the boy adores nature. Just a little motivation can go a long way in helping you achieve your dreams, said the boy.

People are familiar with webcasts today. Such an interactive experience will be the first for this explorer despite him being the first to ice bike 250 miles across Antarctica and the first American to ski to the South Pole. Usually, his numerous trips there since 1999 involved adult pursuits like scientific purposes and extreme skiing even. For him there are no other people that could benefit more from the knowledge he gained from his trips to Antarctica but the youth. A kids' program was decided upon about a year ago.

Adventure in Antarctica is being promoted by the March of the Penguins movie and this makes the timing for this kind of trip even better. Serendipity may be the thing that led the boy's mother to the explorer. Years passed since the two of them attended a local university and contact was lost until a mutual friend told her about the website of the 42 year old explorer.

It was in Buenos Aires, Argentina where the boy made his first live dispatch before the 14 day expedition headed to the south. Sailing through the Drake Passage and the Antarctic Peninsula, they boarded a 100 passenger cruise ship with travelers from Toronto. It was during the 600 mile, 30 hour ride that they encountered the most danger considering how it involved harsh sea weather.

Aside from dolphins, the Drake Passage also provided them with a great view of elephant seals and whales. Now is the time to go to the nearby islands for they are ice free at this season and after they arrive at the peninsula they will transfer to rubber boats. Besides visiting scientific research stations, they will also visit a number of penguin rookeries. Promoted in the March of the Penguins are the largest among the 17 species in Antarctica namely the emperor penguins and the explorer knows where their secret colony is located.
