If youre suffering from low back pain, acupuncture is one of the treasures of complementary medicine.

Perhaps youre suffering from muscle pain or pinched nerve, or youve overworked or fatigued and strained your back. Or you were exposed to cold, damp conditions the winter brings and your back hurts. These can all be treated with Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

According to 3,000 years of case studies, Chinese medical diagnosis has found that it is not uncommon for people with back pain to have what is called "Kidney Yang Deficiency." In addition to low back pain, signs and symptoms of kidney yang (active energy) deficiency dark circles under the eyes, diarrhea early in the morning, cold hands and feet, low energy, pale complexion, difficulty hearing, a general feeling of cold, low libido and frequent urination.

So how does one get "kidney yang deficiency"? Well, through too much sex, overwork, fatigue, poor diet, lack of exercise, too much stress, unhealthy emotions, dressing poorly in cold weather, and ignoring a proper lifestyle of good diet, exercise and rest. Frequent masturbation or too many sexual partners is common and weakens the kidney energy with each orgasm. When one adds to that abuse of the body through drugs, alcohol or partying too late in an attempt to release stress or escape problems... Kidney energy problems may soon arise.

Your kidney energy gets deficient and needs to be harmonized through treatment of acupuncture and natural herbal therapy. The acupuncture needles are made of stainless steel, only used once then thrown away. They are so thin that 20 of them can fit into the opening of a standard hypodermic needle used to draw blood. You barely feel them as the acupuncturist inserts them into specific acupoints along the energy lines of the body.

For back pain, acupuncture needles are inserted locally on the back. However, the best acupuncturists dont needle the affected area. Acupuncture stimulates the nervous system and sends a signal to the brain, which is responsible for homeostasis—balance in the body. A good acupuncture treatment can have an almost instantaneous effect in some acute cases. In chronic conditions that may have taken years to develop, treatment may take longer. It is best to consult with a licensed acupuncturist in your area for specifics relating to your health issues.

In traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is often used in conjunction with herbal medicines to effect a faster healing time. While the best way to take the herbs is in raw for that is boiled and drank like a tea, most Americans find this method inconvenient and not very pleasant on the palate.

Chinese herbs are therefore usually taken in the form of capsules or BB sized "teapills." These teapills are ready made formulas based on common conditions, like kidney yang deficiency and can be purchased online or in some health stores.

Although herbs are natural substances, they can be dangerous if wrongly or self prescribed. Again, it is wise to consult a licensed professional, especially if you are already taking other medications. Herbs are combined with other herbs of similar function to reduce the danger of toxicity and increase synergistic effect.

By consulting with a licensed acupuncturist, you will know what type of treatment you will need, how many visits and how long it till take for results to be felt. Acupuncture is no longer in the margins, but is now an accepted form of natural therapy. Give it a shot and you may be on your way to lasting results from acute injury or a chronic problem.
