For example you could set yourself a project in which you illustrate a nursery rhyme, or design a poster for an art exhibition, or design a book cover. This will present you with practice as well as topic for a collection if you do want to move into commercial drawing.

You must make sure that you test yourself on a continuous basis by educating to draw diverse themes, putting to use diverse media and several techniques.
