Being a relatively easy game to understand, anyone can simply pick up a bingo card and play immediately. The card may be a little bit confusing to the new player, but once he gets the hang of it, the excitement will definitely pick up from that point. But before buying that card and heading to the play area, it would be very useful to know the patterns one needs to form to be able to shout “Bingo!!”

The blackout is one of of the most familiar form of bingo games. It is also one of the easiest to win. What the player needs to do is essentially to mark all the numbers that are rolled until he completely marks all the numbers in his card (hence the name of the game, blackout). Blackout has the highest probability of winning simply because one only needs to fill out the whole card. The position of the numbers doesn’t really matter as long as they appear on the card. Due to the relative ease of making a blackout (one can make it in only twenty four rolls), this is, however, the lowest paying combination one can make in the game.

Perhaps the most popular pattern that is associated with the game of bingo is the straight line. The straight line can be formed either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. The vertical and horizontal lines can be positioned anywhere while the the diagonals only passes through the middle. Those patterns that passes through the middle are easier to form since they required only four numbers to form the winning combination.

Over the years, to add to the excitement of the game, various patterns were created to be included in bingo’s usual repertoire of games. One of the harder patterns to form is the four corners, while one needs only four numbers to form the combination, the numbers must be exactly on the corners of the card to score a bingo. Boxes are somewhat relatively easier to form, since they, like the straight lines that form them, need not have the numbers in a particular position. Diamonds on the other hand need to have the numbers on specific places.

Bingo organizers have also added several exotic patterns to heighten the excitement of the game. The Z pattern is basically a combination of a diagonal and and two straight lines. The snake is a winding pattern that can take several variations, making it more exciting. All these patterns have corresponding payouts depending on the difficulty of forming them.
