After the huge success of the call center and contact center services, the Indian BPO industry has triggered the rise of yet another new outsourcing concept. This new concept is known as Knowledge Process Outsourcing or KPO. The main job of a BPO is to deal with size, volume and efficiency whereas KPO on the other hand deals mainly with the depth of experience, skills and knowledge.

KPO or Knowledge process outsourcing is a defined form of offshore process outsourcing, in which information related activities are executed by highly skilled workforce. For industry experts, the KPO service features have the prospect of ensuring a positive impact in the offshore outsourcing industry.

According to industry reports, many global enterprises in the world are facing serious challenges relating to the deficiency of professionals in various sectors such as medicine, law, pharmacy, biotechnology, etc. To overcome the dearth of trained professionals most global companies decided to outsource certain specific knowledge processes as per the needs and requirements of their client.

Some of the well known KPO services, which are being offered today, are design and animation, medical services, pharmaceuticals, network management, legal services, data analysis and more. The country has the necessary expertise in all these fields therefore it would not be quite easy for India to become the No.1 KPO destination on planet. It has also been reported that many Indian scientists currently working abroad have decided to come back to their homeland to offer their valuable contribution to this sector.

The Indian KPO sector is all set to soar high up in the sky. The reason for this is that the valuable and useful information would be accessed easily and that too at a lower cost. The availability of necessary infrastructure such as office premises, advanced telecommunication systems and internet connectivity is yet another contributing factor. Even the Indian government has shown considerable amount of interest in this sector. They are also tying to make this nation the leading KPO hub.

Although the country has the necessary infrastructure, the Indian government has decided to enhance it little bit further. They have decided to open technology parks so as to showcase the growth and development of the KPO sector in the country. Furthermore, they have also decided to offer tax holidays and concessions to the KPO companies. Apart from this they have also paid attention to certain aspects such as data privacy, Intellectual Property Rights and information security.

According to the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Knowledge Process Outsourcing is the highest level of Business Process Outsourcing. But it is still at a nascent stage and it would need some time to become a fully developed sector. The Ministry even declared that the country has plenty of skilled and eligible professionals to cater to the industrial requirements such as Chartered Accountants, Lawyers, medical professionals and research analysts.

It seems that India is well prepared to become the global KPO leader in near future. Analysts have predicted that the industry would grow at an astonishing rate of 46 per cent by 2010. It is also believed that other countries such as Russia, Israel, China and the Czech Republic are looking forward to join the KPO bandwagon and they would be doing this following the footsteps of India.
