There are many important aspects to remember when being interviewed for a teaching job. One of the most overlooked is asking the panel or interviewer a couple of appropriate, well-thought out questions. Why? Well, asking questions in an interview is critical to move you closer to a solid job offer. Not only does it help determine if the position is a good fit for you, it shows confidence and that you are interested in being apart of their teaching team and school community. Furthermore, if you ask the right questions the interviewer(s) will know you have taken the time to research the school or the district - they like candidate that have completed their homework.

If you are skilled and lucky enough to ask questions through out the interview you will get a two-way conversation going and this will build rapport with the interviewer(s). Some of the best interviews conducted are the ones that seemed more like a pleasurable meeting where great conversation happens. Not like interrogating the applicant.

The type of questions you ask are important, you never want to inquire about anything that is easily answered by reviewing the school or district web site or pamphlets. With that being said, make sure you don’t ask the questions listed below IF you can find the answers on your own. If you do, they will know you haven’t done your homework, research is paramount to a successful interview. Research will also help you immensely when ask the question, “Why do you want to work for our school district?” or “What do you know about our school district?” You need to have solid, meaningful responses.
