Job Creation Is Alive And Well On The Internet

Contrary to what many think, it isn't war that fuels the economy, it is small business that keeps things humming along. Yes indeed, companies with less than five hundred workers provide work for over half of the private workers in the United States.

According to the Office of Advocacy, small business creates 60 to 80 percent of the total of new jobs. There were an estimated 23,974,500 businesses in the United States in 2004. Out of that number 5,683,700 had employees, and of that number 5,666,600 were classified as small businesses.

Because so many people are employed by small businesses, they see first-hand the day to day operation, the struggles and the successes that the owners face. Even in a company of one hundred workers, a worker will be aware of the ups and downs of the economy. It is out of this drama that the spark of entrepreneurship is born.

While many folks are content to put in their eight hours a day, forty hours a week, there are those who dream of working for themselves and becoming their own boss. The idea of controlling their own destiny and the possibility of unlimited earning can become overwhelming and one fine day they strike out on their own.

Sometimes necessity drives the entrepreneurial spirit. Such is the case when workers find themselves turfed out after working for the same company for years and years. In the recent economic downturn this became a familiar and frightening scenario. With the whole economy in turmoil many workers have faced a double problem. Not only were people losing their jobs at an alarming rate, but the skills that had served these people well for the last twenty or thirty years were no longer marketable.

It is out of such despair that the seeds of new entrepreneurship emerge. It is out of necessity that people take the bull by the horns and start something entirely new. Unlike any previous recession, in this one the newest arena for job creation is the internet. This is simply unprecedented. Never before has there been such an avenue for the average person to explore.

With very little capital, a person can develop a product or service that they can launch and market online. The possibilities are endless because there is almost nothing preventing a person from starting their own online business. A person can qualify without so much as stepping into a college or a vocational school. There are no tests to write, no HR people to impress, and even age is not a barrier.

However, this new online economy is not for everyone. Most importantly, you need to be a self-starter, be resourceful, inquisitive, and tenacious, because the internet doesn't come with an instruction manual. Although it might appear there is lots of advice out there, sifting through it all can be a daunting task and a lonely one too. You will pretty much be on your own until you find something that works for you.

If the idea of working from home, setting your own hours, and spending more time with your kids, is attractive to you, then this may be the job for you. But there are just a few small problems. Perhaps the most important issue when you are trying to get going is that the internet is so vast. That makes it difficult to know where to start.

As you start investigating the opportunities you'll probably be overwhelmed by all the possibilities. There is no end to the schemes you'll be confronted with for making money online. Unfortunately most of them have no substance. You'll hear how easy it is to make thousands of dollars a week by doing nothing. But anything that promises you quick money like this is misleading. It is a lie. You are being scammed.

As a budding online entrepreneur the thing you need most is honest, reliable advice - you need a mentor who can guide you through the maze of conflicting ideas and help you decide on a plan. Finding a sensible plan for your new business should be your number one goal. All the training courses, videos, ebooks, seminars, and complicated formulas won't do you a bit of good unless you have an idea of where you want to go and a plan for getting there.

Search out the really successful online entrepreneurs, the ones who have made real money, and study their approach. If you find one that appeals to you, follow their recommendations, apply their principles, stick to their plan, and give it time to develop and evolve. Often the seeds of one idea will mutate into another that will germinate and grow into a successful business.

Develop a sensible plan, work hard at it, and roll with the punches. As they say in the game of hockey, keep your stick on the ice and your head up, and chances are you'll come out a winner.
