Any chance Ivory Coast had of making a serious run in 2010 world cup gambling might have come to a halt on Friday when star striker Didier Drogba broke his arm in a warm up match against Japan.

The likelihood of Ivory Coast even making it from the group stage in World Cup odds are now in question as Drogba is supposed to miss at least some of the World Cup.

Although Ivory Coast is in a hard group with Brazil and Portugal, they're posted by World Cup gambling odds as a clear contender. It is unlikely that Ivory Coast will have sufficient scoring to reach the round of sixteen lacking Drogba in the roster. Drogba was wounded in Ivory Coast's 2- win against Japan. He was harmed following a high challenge by Japan's Marcus Tulio Tanaka. The squad said that Drogba broke his right arm though their coach Sven-Goran Eriksson wasn't totally ruling Drogba out of action. There's an opportunity Drogba might still play since he had surgery over the weekend.

Drogba had 29 goals this season for Chelsea and Ivory Coast was considered a threat in Group G because of his scoring ability. Without Drogba's scoring it appears unlikely Ivory Coast are likely to win their beginning match against Portugal on June 15th. The World Cup odds on Ivory Coast had been dropping and went as low as 23-1 to win it all. Now that Drogba is out, look for those odds to increase. Also watch for the odds on the Ivory Coast competitions to be modified slightly. Portugal was already the preferred in the starting match against Ivory Coast and those World Cup gambling odds may go up a little bit with the news that Drogba is out.

Friday wasn't an awesome day for star players because England's captain Rio Ferdinand was wounded in the course of training in Rustenburg, South Africa. Additionally on Friday, Italy learned that midfielder Andrea Pirlo has an wounded calf and his standing is in question. U.S. striker Jozy Altidore sustained a sprained right ankle and his standing is up in the air and even Brazil goaltender Julio Cesar has been managing a back injury. A number of high profile players have already dropped from the 2010 world cup. Other players who are wounded as well as Drogba and from the 2010 world cup include England's David Beckham, Germany's Michael Ballack and Ghana's Michael Essien.

The FIFA 2010 world cup will start on June 11th and is supposed to run through July 11th. It's the first time ever that the World Cup has been hosted by an African nation. Morocco and Egypt were beaten out by South Africa for the privilege. The FIFA World Cup is held one time every four years and features 32 teams from different countries competing against each other for the tournament in football. This event has historically been dominated by Brazil, which holds a record five championships and is the only squad to have competed in every tournament. Italy is the current champ. They have won the title four times total. The following World Cup will be held in 2014 in Brazil.
