Tanks can be the prettiest and finest attention-getting bit of decoration in your home. They can be cool hobbies, as well as be excellent stress-relievers. You can have something foreign and wild captured inside your home, and the colors and communities that will arise in your aquarium are unsurpassed anywhere else!

Still, there are many decisions to be completed and lots of equipment to buy. Live plants, artificial plants, big tank, small tank, decorations, large fish, small fish, community tank, predatory fish, filters, substrate, stands, chemicals, and lots of other things have to be considered. However this process is not as monotonous as it sounds, partially since many manufacturers sell full aquarium setups, you simply have to put in decorations and fish... and that is the enjoyable part!

You do have to do a bit of reading since fish compatibility is a huge element of whether your tank will succeed or not. Some fish can't be with bigger fish, some can't go with plants, etc. Just find out about the fish you are getting before you go pay money for the one you think is the coolest.

There are many things to think about when you are planning on getting a fish aquarium. The first and almost certainly most important choice you have to make is whether you desire a saltwater tank or a freshwater tank. Take a glance at the contrast:

Freshwater
-Cheaper
-More fish per gallon
-Easier to keep
-Fine for beginners
-Less beautiful and mysterious
-Live rooted plants
-More schools of fish

Even while I claim that freshwater tanks are good for novices, it does not suggest that they aren't wonderful for practiced aquarists. They can be very gratifying for all levels. Freshwater tanks can sustain about 3-5 times as many fish as a saltwater tank. I have actually only had freshwater tanks, generally because I think schools of small, brilliantly colored fish are really cool, and also a lot cheaper. However, my roommate in school had a large saltwater tank that I helped out a bit with that I used to stare at for hours. Read more about them:

Saltwater
-More beautiful and mysterious
-Can have reef tanks (corals, live rocks, etc.)
-A good deal more expensive
-More challenging to care for
-Fish are more difficult to care for
-By and large more solitary fish

The colors and exoticness of these tanks are unsurpassed. The fish are extremely brightly colored, plus you can have cool things like sea horses, star fish and many other things. Clownfish are also fish that get more notice than just about anything else (thank you Finding Nemo). These fish will get you more compliments than freshwater and the corals are really cool looking. They aren't too incredibly hard to care for if you are ready to put forth a little more effort. Their diets are a little more specialized, generally speaking, and the water has to be of the utmost quality. If you have a little more time and money, I highly advocate a saltwater tank.
