Over 6000 cases of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) are reported each year, and more than 900 of these are due to babies' soft crib bedding. Is the plave where your baby sleeps at night not a danger to her?
It's never a good idea to lay an infant on her stomach, because not being able to fully lift her head yet, she might actually soffucate with her face pressed on the bed. Even though soft mattresses may seem like they are more comfortable, they can also prove to be much more dangerous. To avoid fatal accidents when the baby is sleeping, there should be someone always nearby to keep an eye on the position of the baby's head. When the baby's head is placed on the soft mattress, they may not have enough strength to come back in a good position.
parents can select a baby nursery bedding with a firm mattress that does not get depressed easily when some weight is being applied on it in order to avoid accidents. You can assess the strength of a mattress with the simple test of pressing one hand down on the mattress and guaging the resistance to the force applied. The higher the resistance rating of your mattress is, the higher the quality.
Bumper pads in the crib are another cause of suffocation. While attractive and cute, infants' faces may be pressed against the soft pads, causing suffocations when baby is unable to free himself.
Parents need to use extra care and take precautions during this period since the infants are weak and vulnerable. When babies are pressed between the bumper pads and another object and some of the people recommend to buy firmer bumper pads while others just remove all of them from the crib and the latter being the best method because, though rare, there are also cases of strangulation by the strings of the bumper pads and suffocation.
In addition, recent research has revealed that there are toxic gases in mattresses that can be detrimental to your baby's development. Hazardous chemical, fire retardant compounds (phosphorous and arsenic) have been found in mattresses. Poisonus gases can released when a chemical compound combined with certain reactants, during sleep when the baby breathes this it will leads to fatal problem.
Scientists have since found, however, that a frequently occurring fungus in baby bedding may be one of the reactants which is an aid in releasing these toxic fumes. Parents are thus urged not to use old nursery and crib bedding which has been used before, as it may contain fungus after a long period of time. To insure that no fungus is present, parents should be sure to buy new bedding for each new infant. New bedding in a baby's room is far more welcoming than recycled.
Use this criteria to determine if your baby bedding is safe. One should immediately get a safe mattress bedding, so as to sleep without tension for the baby whole night. Also , the baby can sleep well.

In addition, there is some concern about synthetic fabric in baby bedding sets. While there is no solid proof that synthetic fabrics are harmful to a baby, you may want to stick to natural fibers. There are plenty of stylish cotton baby crib bedding sets available (one of my favorites is the Trend Lab's Maya nursery bedding), so there is no need to sacrifice style for safety.
