After the decision has been made to commit to a composting project and what is going to be composted has been established. The primary of the client to determine where they are going assemble all organic waste. It must be a clearly designated, area location facilitating a the out flow of material. These areas are generally located near or on the shipping dock or in a close proximity thereof. It is critical that waste is observed by employees to make sure that non-organic wastes are not allowed to be co-mingled with organic waste. Most facilities use colored containers to clearly specify exactly where the organic wastes belong.
Things to watch for are utensils, plastics, and chemicals. A good rule of thumb is that if you are in doubt do not place it in the organic waste bin. This process of verifying composition is referred to as source separated waste. Those effected most are those who handle food pre-consumer or after. Housekeeping and janitorial departments also play a important factor. Indeed, for a composting project to be truly successful it must have the full cooperation of each and every employee. This is accomplished by instituting a new company wide policy that is in place as quickly after a decision has been reached so that everyone is familiar with what will be expected of them. A quick internet search will lead you to sources that provide literature and learning materials for employee education as well as signs/posters that list acceptable materials to compost/recycle. While some facilities have experienced employee deference to starting something new/different policy those that have framed the process as a proactive way expounding/enumerating the benefits to the environment find that employees are eager to participate. Getting employees excited about saving the company money is not nearly as great a motivator as helping to protect their environment.
Food and agricultural wastes are high in nitrogen ( N ) so in order for them to be composted they must be mixed proportionately with a material the is high in carbon ( C ). Agra Cycle accomplishes this by shredding it to a uniform size and then mixing it with wood shavings. This mixture is then wetted until it reaches proper moisture levels and then the pH values are adjusted using a proprietary process unique only to Agra-Cycle and finally the mixture is loaded into the top of a Vee Stack where nature runs it's course.
Because of top load feature of the Vee-Stack, prepared waste can be loaded on a daily basis. This reduces the length of time it has to stored which is good news for those with space limitations. This is also good news for those who generated tons of organic waste each daily. The Vee-Stack is equipped with on board sensors that collect and store interior data. This is needed for third party sources who grade compost to prove that optimal levels have been maintained. This information is also used for verification of amount processed to qualify for carbon credits.
Speaking of carbon credits. If you haven't enough reason motivators to start a composting organic waste recycling project yet perhaps you should investigate the subject of carbon credits. Yes, there really are carbon credits and yes there really is a Chicago Climate Exchange. Now with an administration bent on passing a Cap & Trade Tax that duplicates Europe's failed climate change policy now might just be the ideal time to start planning on how you are going to reduce your carbon footprint. Failure to meet a bureaucrat's determination of your carbon footprint is going to cost you. A Vee-Stack can aid you here as well. In fact you could earn carbon credits to sell or trade on the exchange. While it may not be enough to fund a new company Gulf stream, it may cover the cost of an employee appreciation event for helping preserve the environment.
The final tidbit that I will tempt you with is this. Public Relations. Whether your company just wants some great PR or really needs to have it's image improved, Agra Cycle provides a vehicle that showcases your company in the spotlight.
