China’s recent success in BPO is turning out to be a huge shock to the Indian offshore outsourcing service providers. India has been enjoying its monopoly position for a long time. Now China is all set to grab the spotlight.

The concept of offshore business process outsourcing started with India. This is the place where the concept has taken the shape of a blooming industry. Undoubtedly, India is the country that has pioneered a unique concept and has held the topmost position in the field of offshore outsourcing for many years. With China making room in the global outsourcing scenario, India’s dominance faces a huge challenge from another Asian counterpart. Coming days will tell who remains in the race for a long time.

For more than two decades, India’s supremacy was almost unquestionable. Industry experts found India to be in the top list of major companies when the question of outsourcing came in. Finally its time, when India has been challenged by yet another Asian nation, which is determined to dethrone India once and for all. This Asian nation is no other than China-the country known for having the latest population in the world.

China is all set to wage war for becoming the next BPO leader of the world. As per the latest information, some of the Chinese offshore outsourcing service providers have registered phenomenal growth in the recent years. They have even managed to bag huge number of international projects helping them in generating huge revenues.

Sensing the steady progress of the Chinese BPO industry, India now seems pretty concerned about the same. The well known industry giants like Wipro, Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services also seems to be worried about this fact. Latest news also reveals the fact that revenues generated by Shanghai outsourcing service industry climbed 20.3 per cent. Even the contract value saw an increment of 18.3 per cent.

Tang Dengjie, the Vice Mayor of Shanghai is happy to experience this phenomenal achievement of his state. He believes that the country would soon be able to reach the peak of success in future. Shanghai is also well aware of the fact that its neighbor India is presently holding the crown. Vice Mayor Tang Dengjie said that India is a tough competitor. They have been in this field for a long time and therefore overtaking India would be a tough job. But the Vice Mayor of Shanghai is confident that they would surely overtake India soon.

India being in the race is not going to give up so easily. Years of hard work and dedication has made this country to become the most preferred BPO destination in the world. Mr. Suresh Senapaty, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Wipro said that the whole Indian IT network must join hands to combat the threat from China. The average annual revenue of the Indian outsourcing industry is $50-billion till now, which is far better than China. However, the recent revenue growth of the Chinese BPO has now become a major concern for the Indian outsourcing vendors.

There are few things that are quite common between India and China. Both these countries are blessed with huge pool of skilled and efficient workforce. Both of them include the necessary infrastructures such as huge office spaces, high speed internet connectivity, excellent telecommunication systems and more. One thing that India is having in its favor is the expertise and experience. They have been in this industry for a long time even before China’s entry.

Indian companies should consider on the fact that China has the unique capability of churning out things at a lower cost. This is truly a remarkable potential that simply can’t be ignored. Both the contenders are evenly matched and therefore it is hard to predict which one would become the next BPO king. Only time will tell what will be in future.
